Where is the best place to register .co.uk domains?

If you're a UK individual, with a .co.uk you are free to "opt-out".

Nice site... might get from them in the future. Currently all my domains are with GoDaddy.com who are also good, but don't take solo & are American >.<

Prices are a bit more expensive for .com from registron though.

According to registron if they do let you "opt out" it means you dont own the domain. How true is this?

I'd email [email protected] and see what they say. I've never had a problem with opt-out. The only people who really own a .uk domain are Nominet.

Who told you that? Can you post the email? It's not true in any case.

Proxy domain registrations mean that ownership can be disputed. An individual opting out of whois *display* on a .uk domain certainly does not.

Hi. That's not possible I'm afraid - if we change the details to ours,
you will no longer be the legal owner of the domain. Any companies who
offer 'whois masking' on GTLD domains are effectively becoming the
registrant which, in the case of any ownership disputes, will act
against you.

Firstly, you're talking about a GTLD (.com/.net/.org) domain. It is not possible to 'opt out' of whois on GTLD domains.

Some registrars will register your domain to their name/address. This can be a problem if you ever need to prove ownership of your domain. This is what the email refers to.

If you are a non-trading individual and you have registered a .uk domain, you can ask your registrar to opt out of displaying your address data on any whois lookups. Your details are still on file, just not displayed to the public.

When I got my .co.uk I think it was nominet that sent me a letter saying I could log onto their site and opt out of having my address and details shown on whois

I use www.1and1.co.uk for .co.uk domains and www.namecheap.com for all others as they take paypal

Not only are Register1 cheap their support is so quick it's a little spooky!

They recently bent over backwards to help me with a domain ownership issue on behalf of my friend. Of course, as soon as it's resolved, Register1 gain another customer/domain.
