So, whilst not the most manly of dog names, does anyone here have a Cockapoo/Cockerpoo ?

They seem to tick every box we want from a dog, and we have found a few breeders that we have had decent length conversations and visits to, but just wondering if anyone here has one, and could recommend a breeder?

They do look nice.

I have issues with people crossbreeding dogs, giving them a stupid hybrid name, and charging the earth for them though. They used to just be called crossbreeds or mongrels in the past I'm sure, and used to be free to good homes or sold for a nominal amount.

/Grouch.

I see a lot of this out there, and managed to get abuse for it pretty much anywhere i ask questions.

We have good reason for wanting this crossbreed, and we don't have a huge problem with paying the extra over other breeds to secure these qualities.

I think its quite hilarious people get so angry about this, but the same people usually don't have a problem with picking any old dog and that being ok. We aren't in that situation so don't have that luxury. Trust me, if we were, we would !

Cross-breeding however is a damn sight better than the inbreeding people demand for their "pure bloods"

I fell short of posting this thinking I'd open a can of worms...

I agree. It is scary to see what some breeders do (Breed mother with son, etc etc) to keep the breed 'pure' and get the right 'lines and looks'.

I'll take an expensive cross breed over that any day of the week.

Thanks for the further replies.

Out of interest, how much exercise are you giving your dogs?

My wife unfortunately doesn't work (would love to, but health doesn't allow) so she is in the house all day ... unless she goes out of course !

We don't mind where we need to get it from, this is a long term purchase !

I'll give that breeder a call. It's proving difficult to find many breeders who do all the right health checks (low HIP score for male, DNA clear on PRA for male (poodle) ideally female HIP scored, under 4 litters, not bred too young..... Etc)

Just lots of people out for a quick buck ...
