Not sure if WWI is right for a FPS

Level 1 Attack some sandbags
Level 2 Stay in a trench and get trench foot
Level 3 Much the same as Level 2 but with bigger rats
Level 4 Avoid getting shot by your own side for leaving guard duty
Level 5 Over the top (game completed if you can see an enemy solider before being blown up)

How about a FPS based around the film Zulu :D

Yeah, I was going to also add that the most used weapon in WWI was either a shovel or a frying pan, so Im not entirely sure that WWI would work then?

There are plenty of things they can do to add new dimensions to CoD without bringing modern warfare into it:

1) They havent touched the pacific campaigns, they could add entire islands and allow the player some freedom on how they go about completing objectives. Not to mention there are some big famous battles that can be recreated.

Thats what the COD series is needing, a sense of freedom. COD always feels like you are being forced down one path. The Pacific campaign would also work well with CODs style of gameplay. Plenty of enemys trying to rush you. I am sure this setting will be used in future CODs. The whole beach landing and French towns has been done to death.

What about 4mph tank battles where you might get stuck in some mud?

That'd be a game!

I like COD/COD2 mainly for the multiplayer aspect although they ruined a lot of what made the original great in COD2. Like in COD1 my fav map was Brecourt for some crazy rifle action (not sniping) but in COD2 you spawn in the chicken pens and can then continue to spawn there the entire map while the opposite team spawn hump you. Depends on how many 'special' team mates you have though or the quality of your opposition. The maps are so dull in comparison too - either re-hashes of old maps or completely awful new ones.

Totally unrelated but I am stuck in Indonesia at the moment where the broaband costs £100 a month for a (supposed) 512k connection but there is one tdm server which I manage to get a 50ping on but the latency is awful = fruitcakes can kick my backside who otherwise would be taking an unholy beating :D. Still play just for the surprise bashing which makes the game fun in my opinion...the fear people have of a madman swinging a rifle at their head, honestly.

Single player I got annoyed with the instant enemy respawn, it forces you to go headless chicken through the game. I prefer rifles rather than spazzing out with a Tommy gun. One time I shot a guy on a ledge, looked to the right then back and another guy was lying in the exact same spot - the axis need to stop taking the speed boost tablets or something.

For COD4 a superior version of United offensive would be good possibly with a different setting and/or time.

There are plenty of battles that no PC game has covered and the argument that COD should do something else is ridiculous as it is a WW2 game after all!

WW2 games have a wide appeal and i'm sure they will keep coming and hopefully gaining in quality.

I've long been wanting to see a WW1 game, but you would just end up getting gassed and it would be over pretty quickly.

There was one that was set in the future and it had fps, and trench warfare, I have it somewhere but never got round to playing it. Anyone remember the name?

Headquarters is the best MP mode known to man.

Pure brilliance.

It's teams, it's objective orientated, has variety(hq's spawn everywhere), tacticts(defending possible hq points, protecting those starting an HQ and then not dying when the HQ has been completed as you don't respawn.)

Only way for a team to get points is to work together, so ramboing isn't too helpful(only one or two guys is useful, as otherwise the base gets destroyed.

I love that mode

The Truth!!!

HQ is absolutely brilliant. What servers do you play on?

Can you enlighten me as to WTF HQ is?

Sounds good, but I seem to be missing the noggin to grasp what it is?

Well, it can vary slightly from sever to server.

-Each game lasts 30min
-A HQ (radio) will appear at one of several set points within the map
-A team member can 'capture' the radio by standing on it for about 10 seconds.
-Once the HQ has been built, the team that holds it gets ~60 points for holding it for every 40 second interval.
-If you die, you must wait until the end of the 40 second interval to respawn with the rest of your team.
-You can destroy the HQ by standing on it for ~10 sec.
-by destroying the HQ, you get points equivalent to the number of seconds remaining in that 40 second interval.
-A new HQ at a different location can then be captured by any of the 2 teams
-The first team to 600 points wins, or the best score after 30 minutes wins

Put simply, it combines the tactics of a CS style Search and Destroy, round-based game with the franticness of a TDM game. It's also intensely tactical, and difficult to camp because the objectives are constantly shifting direction.

Edit: That is HQ on COD1. COD2 has a different version that's much less interesting to play.

HD? Do you mean HQ?

COD is my favourite multiplayer game. I played CSS for 6 months, and then went back to COD. COD just feels like far less a game of chance, and far more tactical.

S&D mode is also really good. Very tactical, but can get a bit repetitive.

I hope the next PC CoD release retains the WW2 theme, imo modern warfare sucks!
The CoD2 single player is great all maxed out with a thumping surround sound set-up, but rather short, the longevity lies with multiplayer and a bunch of mates on vent in team death match. All in all the best PC FPS war series ever ;)
