COD 4 or CSS "Online gaming"

Both are superb, but CSS will always be the winner for me. If you haven't played Call of Duty 4 before, then get that in my opinion. It has great online multiplayer, but you have the story mode you can play through as well. Even though it is pretty short, it is just SO damn good.

looking at it there is twice as much players with call of duty 4 so more noobs for me to compete with :D

stats dont always tell the truth, CSS is the no.1 fps shooter atm. COD4 ranks nearer to it than anything else in recent memory. they are both kings of fps, and are both great. CSS just edges it in terms of numbers, believe me. XFire doesn't show every little player.

According to Game-monitor.com there are currently 40k odd players playing CSS right now, as opposed to 20k odd players playing COD4 right now.
 
Aye, I wouldn't trust xfire, as it'll show people who have it, and not everyone does. Oh, and I'm pretty sure CS 1.6 is still more played than CS:S. :p

That said, I'd go with COD4, as I reckon it'll be far easier to get into, plus you can get to grips with the engine through the single-player.
 
I am a long term fan of CSS and have recently purchased COD4 and I dont regret it one bit. But games although are FPS, they are completely different.

CSS is the sort of game that you need to practice and play often to keep up with the best on the server, whereas I joined COD4 and immediately started to be in the three after getting to grips with the difference guns and styles of play.

I am enjoying COD4 much more but that wont stop me going back to CSS in a few months.

Get both if you can or if you have to choose one, I would go with COD4.

Just dont play free for all. I played once, spawn...dead...spawn...dead...spawn...dead

I didnt even get the chance to move as they just kept their guns on the spawn area that people appear...most unsporting in my opinion.

Its crazy that these games are so thought after yet there isnt many more other like them :(

COD4 is my descision "I can then play offline also" :)

Xfire stats, as someone else said, just show people with Xfire, which is a very useful tool for CoD4, however CSS has Steam Friends, so the majority of people who play CSS have no need for it.
 
As said COD4 NEEDS Xfire to play with friends, CSS uses steam. Not a good comparison.

Please please please though, despite you limiting your choices...do NOT forget about Team Fortress 2.
 
Do you get CSS and TF2 in *** Orange Box? If so I would definately go for that. Team Fortress 2 is great fun, and when you want to get a bit more serious, jump onto CSS.
