Cod 4 server advice ?

Hi all , ive just rented a COD4 16 player server its running all the maps and TDM and SAB game modes , trouble is im having real problems actually getting ppl on it, im not in a clan so have no clan m8s to help me get it started and i kinda feel like ive wasted my money renting it


ive tried sitting idle on it to get ppl to join but no luck so far so can any one give me advice on getting players to join, like best game types or to use or settings

Bear in mind that this is a relatively new game and it has generated huge interest, so there are A LOT of servers around. We rent a 12-player server for fun, we aren't a clan or anything either, and sometimes the server fills up and stays that way all night. Other times such as last night, we just get a couple of players in, then 1 here and 1 leaving there, it is frustrating.

I just do the same as you if I want to get it running, just sit in there a few minutes and usually people join. There is usually at least 2 of us to start it off though to be fair. You will probably find that as you get a few people join they will come back again and again if they have a good time, that's certainly what we have found anyway.

Ok i know the server name is terrible :D , but i wanted to try get the server near the top of the browser list so using numbers would achieve that, not that it got me any more players joining like :D

i think if you have the IP:PORT held with a copy (ctrl+c), paste (ctrl+v) works at the console :)


or what i do is create a .txt file in the games root folder, rename it servername.bat, rclick the .bat, select edit and enter:

iw3mp.exe +connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx

if the server has a password:
Code: 
iw3mp.exe +connect xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxxxx +password letmein
save and exit..

just double click the .bat and your in :)
 
Switching gametype is going to put people off. Sadly its going to be difficult getting people in unless there are a few in anyway. More than 4 or 5 people will start to come in. Best bet would be a free for all server to get punters in.
 
At the moment the game type is on alternate TDM and SAb , one map tdm next map sab and so forth

out of interest which would be the best map to get the server going with ? i thought maybe "crash" ? but not sure
 
We set up a CoD4 server in TDM. From the word go it was full. It always is. Ours is a 32 player server with 2 reserve slots. Looks like that might be your best bet. We have just started up a random gametype one now as well.

Edit: Changing the name may help. If its UK based, put UK in the title.
 
Our clan use an application called HLSW for joining and performing kicks/bans etc might be worth a look at for some of you?

HLSW is pretty good use that for other games. Although not sure if it works with COD4?
