Anybody played any of the missions on COD 4 on veteran ?

ive finished the game on Hardened, so set about trying a couple of the missions on veteran to see what its like

As if Hardened wasnt bad enough, Veteran is just insane. You just have to be looked at by somebody before they kill you. Ive no idea what weapon they have, but they sure as hell aint the weapons im using, they fire like P90s, but pack the firepower of the RPK, and can be shot from the hip whilst running with 100 % accuracy

I tryed the last mission, the epilogue mission. Its simply impossible. I kill the first 3 guards, flashbang the gang in the first room, take those 6 or 7 out and flashbang the next room, take out the 9 or so people in there (all without taking a single bullet) but by this time im usually on less than 20 seconds, and just dont have the time to fight my way through everybody on the top deck in time. Ive managed to kill everybody at the end of the hallway , but not enough time to run down there and get to the end bloke, let alone kill him.

anybody want to give it a try and let us know how you get on ?

I completed the game on veteran. I had no idea just how hard it was going to be, if I did know I probably wouldn't have bothered. I always play on the hardest difficulty though, gives me a greater sense of achievement and value. However, I found about 90% to be infuriatingly frustrating. It almost ruined the game for me, I was too stubborn to give in though.

It was the kind of difficulty I like to play after I have completed a game and becomes unlocked afterwards. It might be less about skill and more about how many times you are willing to retry a mission!

When I built up my new machine I decided I'd try going from the beginning again, on Veteran. I got a couple of save-points into the first USMC mission and then spent the next 20 minutes learning the trigger points for events to happen, and I couldn't get past it...

So I thought no more about that, and continued on from where I'd left off (on Regular difficulty, mind you) before getting the new PC!

I may try it on Hardened again, now I've completed it on Regular.

whats the secret to the epilogue mission ?

i can do it without a time limit ,but find the 1 minute time limit too much. Just cant get up stairs with enough time to fight my way down to the bottom of the plane in time.

That's not of value to me! I stopped playing games on their hardest settings after half-life made the weapons seem rubbish on hard. Emptying 25 rounds into someone at point blank and them being able to operate at 100% is not fun.

Games should only alter their AI for harder levels not silly things like making bullets do less damage. Only installed COD4 last night, loooking forward to playing it now. Definitely not playing it on Veteran then, I'd rather have fun.

I am currently replaying this game on Veteran after completing it on Hardened. Currently at the level where you have to clear all the buildings and work your way up the hill. I am not looking forward to the part where you get the airstrikes and need to get back down the hill, or the end of the sniper level, the number of times i had to restart on those two on Hardened was ridiculous, and i forsee it being a whole lot worse on Veteran :(

i did half the game on hardened but got stuck on the ferris wheel bit. Got really close a few times but gave up after loads of tries. I think the fact that i'm too busy with real life stuff to play as much as i would like to stopped me from continuing. I completed the game on regular though.

I think vet would be too hard for be really.

I did start on veteran but figured I just wasnt getting the fun out of the game when you get insta-shot by terrorists who shouldnt have even seen you. You can make good headway by flashbanging everything and I only really got annoyed after playing a substantial amount of MP and realising that the AI were telepathic with lasers - you dont die because you made a mistake, you died because your gun wasnt pointing straight at the T as you went round the corner. Hardened is a much more 'real' experience.

only way to do the "rush down the hill level" is to rush down the right hand side of the map

on hardened and above there are too many to fight, you just dont have the time. You just leg it, and avoid most of the other troops. You just then leave your AI team mates to find their own way down. thankfully they cant be killed in the same way you can, so manage just fine. Then just hop onto the chopper and fly away

ferris wheel mission is similar, you cant play it like you would on normal and stand and fight. You have to go off and run and hide somewhere and not even try to fight them. Theres 2 ways to do it, go prone inside the ticket booth next to the wheel and they just grenade you. Grenades do no damage and they dont try and come in to you. The odd one might land inside but just throw it out. When the chopper arrives, run and pick him up and and leg it onto the chopper

Other way (the way i did it) was to run to the place where the first wave of baddies came from. IF you run behind the swimming baths the second lot of re-inforcements dont come. Just the guys in the chopper. Shoot any of them that find you then leg it to your bloke and pick him up when the chopper arrives

but like i said, you're wasting your time trying to play it properly on hardened or veteran.

Completed it on hardened by planting a whole load of C4 while the second wave were dropping in then standing behind the bumper cars and taking them out one by one as they formed a semi-orderly queue. If one or two rogues broke ranks I detonated the C4 and took a breather ;) Once the chopped arrived just legged it!!:)

heh, on hardened I got it down to being able to kill all of the guys out of the helipoters bar 1 before they landed. I generaly lay on the mound behind the base of the Ferris wheel and killed them 1 by 1 as they ran up the stairs.

I ended up having to consult a walkthrough for the Ferris Wheel sniper bit on Hardened. Man, that was tough. Got through it in the end, though :D

I tried it on Veteran and it is ridiculous. There isn't much point to it if you have to know where all the enemies are coming from to even have a hope of surviving.

i said "properly" because for example, on the rush down the hill to the chopper mission, your supposed to fight your way down and kill everybody you find

but assuming you lay C4 / claymores at the enterance to the field, and kill everone that comes, you waste too much time doing so and leave yourself not enough time to get the to chopper

whats more, if you exit the field the way your supposed to, it triggers another wave of re-inforcements comming up the hilll and you have no cover to shoot at them. You just appear in front of them on the brow of a hill

only way to do it, is to kill as many as you can at the main fields, then leg it down the right hand side of the map, and not wait (like your supposed to) for your team to come with you. They try and go the main way out of the farm.

So you just run down the right hand side of the map, let your team fight there way through the enemy, going down the hill the way your supposed to go. Your team mates are completely invulnerable and the enemies seem to swtich off when fighting your team. When shooting at your team mates, their ROF drops back to easy level, and they become stupid. So they just catch you up 30 seconds later.

as soon as you try and shoot however, they fire back at minigun speeds and with RPK damage from the hip whilst running....

I completed it on Veteran. My reasoning by starting out on the hardest level was that I wanted the game to last as long as possible as I heard that the SP story was really short.

It certainly did last a lot longer due to the fact i had to load so often after dying randomly! I also found that the save for certain zones wasn't reliable at all... I get to an area that should save, but it doesn't... 5 tries later and it decides to save!?!? That was more annoying than anything else...

Anyway, yeah, it was a really good challenge, I enjoyed it and actually felt really satisfied after completing it! Highlight for me was the sniper mission All Ghillied Up!

I think for enjoyment's sake though I'm going to play the game through again on medium instead. :)

I'm doing it on veteran at the moment. Some parts of the game just comes down to luck (and the luck isn't stacked on your side). Like the bit where you need to get into the basement of the barn. You can't possibly kill all the enemies so you just need to hide behind the tractor and pray your face isn't removed from your shoulders when you make a break for it. Bit silly really.
