COD MW3 To Feature Subscription "Elite" Service

I will probably get the game a few months after it has been out. I will however be damned to pay for DLC . **** just will not happen i tell you. Also looking forward to BF3 :)

If the last couple of CoD games weren't including 'major fail' as one of their main features, and if it was done extremely well, this could be a good thing for online FPS gamers. A subscription would probably be about the same cost over a year as a new game and the DLCs anyway.

As it's CoD, though, it'll be ****, and just designed to get the money from our pockets. I hope it brings about the end of the old CoD.

I can't see the value, besides the fact it's all stuff you'll find in plenty of PC games for free, they are not offering dedicated servers, which is the one thing I think would attract people on consoles.

Unfortunately, your average cod player doesn't have the largest quantity of brain cells and has lots of mummy and daddy's money to spend, so it'll probably be a massive hit.

Will they also charge more than other games for the actual game itself like they did last few times?

Thats me never buying CoD again.

For one, all of the crap they say about it, like Jakspyder said, just LOL at Activision, and paying for stuff we should get already, just No.

Battlefield, well maybe here I come ;)

I'll hold off my comments until the full details of this Elite service is laid bare along with pricing.

Is going to be interesting to see how they implement the free vs paid for Elite service.

It's quite clever, really.

Mum and Dad will pay the subscription because it stops little Jonny going out drinking with his 14 year old pals and getting 13 year old girls up the duff. It's a small price to pay.

All this people picking up on the 'hyper realisitic' comments bare in mind that it was written by The Wall Street Journal, so to them it probably does look pretty real.

It just goes to show the age mentality of some people.

When they support a game like an mmo with regular and major content updates and changes, they can charge like an mmo. If the game was really that good i wouldnt have an issue but sadly i doubt it will be.

I have been kind of expecting this sort of thing to happen to fps games sooner or late anyway.

No real surprise since this feature was discussed just before the release of MW2 for future games. It's basically a F2P MMOFPS already so will be easy to make the move to a freemium model.

If it works then I'd be surprised if the Battlefield series didn't move towards this as well in the next few releases since they both operate on XP/leveling.

I was expecting this and I see it fine from one stand point but then bad from another. Yep give those paying players more features and such but make sure the "free players" don't miss anything that could break the game (ie limited gun usage and such).

But then I see what all these f2p games are doing which I'm guessing will be very similar to MW3 but with a £40-50 upfront fee :p

Heres an article about it from PCGamer, including a trailer.

Seem to be video sharing, friends lists, groups, competitive leaderboards. Basically what Steam does for free. It doesnt look to be including weapons, perks or anything thatll actually affect gameplay. Its not a good precedent to set, but since i dont play CoD i cant say i care that much. If activision want to make money off idiots in ways that dont affect me, then thats fine by me.
