COD MW3 To Feature Subscription "Elite" Service

Heres an article about it from PCGamer, including a trailer.
http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/05/31/c...-monthly-subscription-service-to-multiplayer/

Seem to be video sharing, friends lists, groups, competitive leaderboards. Basically what Steam does for free. It doesnt look to be including weapons, perks or anything thatll actually affect gameplay. Its not a good precedent to set, but since i dont play CoD i cant say i care that much. If activision want to make money off idiots in ways that dont affect me, then thats fine by me.

Might not affect you now, but it will in future!

so the people who pay the money may get a few extra guns and perks.

big deal. anyone half decent with a standard unmodified UMP can go and dominate a public match regardless of how overpowered you think akimboshottys/tubes etc are.

having dominant weapons as a paid for option would break the core gameplay. im not saying they wont do it [we know what they are like for making 'bad moves'] but it seems less likely.

And the people who don't bother to buy this tripe, therefore not supporting a **** money-grabbing franchise win for now!

The sad thing is that idiots will buy this game, and as a result, we'll be seeing pay-to-play fps's becoming much more common place.

Really really hope this gets shelved as an idea. Even if they do restrict the paid service to video sharing, friends lists, groups, competitive leaderboards its a back door in to charging for any extras. Lets face it if they think they can get away with it they would charge for the patches as optional extras :(

Do the people calling everyone 'idiots' for buying into this, think the same of people who pay to play MMO's?

I wasn't aware MMOs made you pay extra to access features?

It doesn't matter what Activision do, it'll work out profitably and other companies (yes i'm looking at you EA) will start copying it. No doubt they'll be announcing such a thing for BF3 soon...

WHy does anyone care? Buy a game, pay for useless extras, or don't.

If the game is up to the standards of the "other" company's inbetween games, I won't pay a penny for it, if its up to Infinity ward type standards, I'll probably buy it for single player, and a few weeks fun on MP. I enjoy some MP but playing the same maps, for years on end holds literally zero interest to me, so paying extra to play the same game against the same people in the same maps with the same end result over and over again, not likely.

The game is either worth the price stand alone, or its not, any further cost for added stuff holds zero interest for me and won't effect if I get the game or not in the slightest.

I'm betting on them not hitting Infinity ward standards and making a POS game like black ops again, in which case I won't go near it. Infinity ward were losing their way with it anyway MW2 was a huge step backwards from MW1.

I reallly realllllly realllllllly hope that PC players dump this game in favour of BF3.

This is tripe, it really is. Its not even like the game will be cheap to buy initialy.

Its gonna be £40-50 on console and PC, and then along with this its just madness! Screw COD

This has been coming for a long time.

The only thing that surprises me is that it took them as long as MW3 to introduce it.

/me inserts picard facepalm...
All the teenybopper k3wlios will go for this in droves, leaving BF3 llama free.

I do not know why everyone is so up in arms about this, from what details are out, this will not impact the current feature set that is free, so if you do not want all the extra stuff, and inclusive DLC it is not a problem.

Because its pretty damn obvious where its going to go from here? And not just in CoD games.

With the direction COD has been taking this was a natural progression. I can't imagine any scenario where I would pay extra for it, after buying the game, but then again, I prefer the Single Player to multiplayer in 9/10 games.
