Hey all,

I just installed the original CoD from disc and it all went fine.

However, upon trying to run the game I got the following message (and on further attempts).

kapfte.jpg

Any clues as to what on earth it means?

I googled the term and got lots of technical jargon about C++ and hackers!? I'm doing virus & spyware scans now :S

On nVidia cards (which I see you don't have) its possible to work around it by changing open GL compatibility flags - I think some of the newer drivers have a profile that fixes it too.

I'm assuming its something ATI would have to fix but being a fairly big title I'd have thought it was already done in recent drivers.

EDIT: Seems advice for ATI users is to install 10.4, then install 10.5 and rollback to 10.4? seems a bit of an awkward "fix" - some other possible fixes here: http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=227&threadid=134238

Thanks Rroff, I'll try some of that out :)

Edit: Sorry to be a complete newbie but how do I uninstall the one I have (10.9 i think) and install 10.4? Or can I just download and run install for 10.4?

It does as I got it working with w7 64 bit and an ATI card but can't remember how :(

Will try and remember and report back.

same.

for the life of me i can't remember what i did!

grrr...

edit: found it :D

Steam Forums said:

put this file in your cod1 folder (works fine also with all other opengl's games that has the same problem. but i don't know how fix quake live that has corrupted textures...)

is not necessary revert to ccc 10.4 if you try this.

Mine works on my Windows 7 64bit under 10.4 Cats no issues at all. 10.5 through to current cats dont seem to work. I didnt do anything but that and never had an issue.

(mine was a steam purchase btw, so probably upto date)

With the game being so ancient and looking at your rig, it'll probably run quite happily inside a VMware virtual machine loaded with XP - they fully support up to DirectX 9.0c in them these days (Try it with a trial from their website, saves a lot of messing about if you ask me. :D)

Well it does work in Win7 64bit perfectly fine. So he shouldnt need a VMware virtual machine. I am interested to know if it works without doing it though.

Got it running beautifully with that file (http://www.filefront.com/16696483/atioglxx.rar). Thanks for that Twist :)

I had tried running it in XP and with Admin rights but made no differences.

If I find more problems in the future (The latest Win7 updates seem to have really screwed everything up, thanks microsoft!) then I will try out downgrading drivers and/or that VMware machine idea.

Thanks everyone, I'll be shooting up tonight XD

I used to have it running nearly every evening until Battlefield bad company 2 came along

using I7 6gb windows 7 home 64bit with 2 * gtx280 in sli.
