CoD Servers

My kids and I play CoD online together but when we search for servers to join games we all get different amounts of servers, not just the odd server here and there either. The difference can be several hundred. Each PC has the filter settings set up the same.

One particular PC always finds the most servers.

Does anyone have any ideas why this should be?

Thanks.

i'm not sure as to why but i've noticed it too.

if one person gets the IP:Port of the server and can give it to the others, they can then connect from the game's console..
\connect <ip>:<port>

or using a .bat file (a .txt document renamed .bat) placed in the call of duty folder and containing the line..
CoDMP.exe +connect <ip>:<port>

Are you all on the same network??

If so and you only want to play each other, why not just start your own COD network server, you can set all the settings however you like and just have a laugh. You could even allow access to the internet and see if others will log on :D

Hector:

Good tip, I'll give that a try this weekend. Thanks.

mNuTz:

We are on the same network and we do play on our own sometimes although we can't always "see" each other, this is usually dependent on which PC is acting as the server (sadly we can't stretch to a separate, non-playing server). Hector's tip looks like it will help with this problem though.

We've even had internet "visitors" sometimes but we seem to have lost the ability to be seen from the internet. Don't know why, I didn't think I'd changed the configuration file.

i have the same problem here, one PC always has to act as the server so the others can see it. It never works the other way.

Problem is its the slowest PC as well

I've not been so unlucky, usually it's the fastest of the PCs that can be seen but often only after much guttering about, lots of switching between local, favourites and internet, list refreshes, etc.

The other odd I've noticed is that the PC, when spotted, is shown as having requiring a password although none is set on the server and none is required to join the game.

Not sure if it's a coincidence but the PC that can be most frequently seen is the one with the internet connection (the others are fed by ICS).

Again, coincidence or not? The slower the PC the more servers it sees, today we have 1322, 1472 and 2430 on an Athlon 2800, an Athlon 1700 and 1GHz PIII. What's even more strange is that some of the 1322 servers are not amongst the 1472 and so on.

Only the XP 2800 machine has a firewall and anti-virus, both McAfee.

Perhaps I'm being niave here but that's the only one connected to the internet (the others use internet connection sharing) and the kids have been good so far, regards not copying stuff onto their PCs willy-nilly.

Each machine will need to specify a different port to use, else to the outside world it looks like one machine. If you have NAT/ICS then it'll get confused and send server A one way and server B another, hence differenting server lists.

I can't remember how to specify different ports on cod, sorry.

That's an interesting theory but I'm not convinced, not yet. I think I find about the same number of servers for each a particular PC whether the other PCs are in CoD or not (including when the other PCs are switched off).
