Hi,

just spent 1 hour 10 mins playing one level on vetern mode cod2 - Assault on Matmata (where u get ambushed at the start and have to use the aircraft guns at the end to shoot down the nmy air support). Did anyone find this mission particularly hard as i thought it was one of the hardest levels i have ever played on a fps yet. Saying that though, it was VERY satisfying once i finally completed it.

this was where my cod 2 veteran campaign stopped, i couldnt escape the ambush at the start, i must have tried about 50 times, i found the rest of vet easyish

I posted on this forum about that very level which was one of the hardest I'd faced. Basically I ended up with a respawn point where:
1. I had to man the guns....
2. While at the same time dodging sniper fire from two snipers on the roof who I'd not killed, before the game saved the checkpoint :(

Total nightmare. I ended up restarting that level and then clearing out every enemy on the rooftops before letting the game advance and add a checkpoint. Theres quite a few tedious bits out there though, at least you got past the ambush. That alone took me a solid two days.

i had to do exactly the same, kill a couple of people in a split second then get the planes.

Im stuck on the first american mission, as soon as you get to the top of the cliff you dead basically.

If you think thats bad, wait til you hit the Silo. That drove me mad.

I really enjoyed that level, probably more than any other too, so I didn't mind playing it about 100 times before doing it :p.

It really is awesome on Veteran though.

Use your smoke grenades to get some cover with, soon as the mission starts throw them towards your vehicle and go hide behind it, then when the smoke starts to clear pick them off the roof tops.

I thought this game was amazing, and loved playing it through from start to finish.

Paul ...

Hehe, happy memories. One of the lads here at work bought a 360 at the weekend with COD2 and everyday he's reminding me of various parts of the game.

Definately gonna go down as a classic and hope it's follow up will be more of the same.

Like I've said in the past, this is one of the only games where I have been truly gutted when I finished it. The last one before it was Max Payne 2. I'm jealous of you, being in a position where you're playing it through for the first time not knowing whats coming next.

The sense of achievement you get when you complete each level is fantastic, especially the tough ones. And there's people in the PS3 saying it's not a major franchise... It's won more awards than the games they were calling major franchises.

Yer gotta agree with all that :)

Finding it quite hard at the mo on this mission in Normandy where you're in the back of a truck with a panzer. Keep dying :(

EDIT: just did it lol. needed to spam thye panzer a bit more :)

Mist say though, this is the 1st fps i have played on the 360 and i'm getting used to using the 2 analogue controllers for movement and aim. Still prefer a keyboard and mouse anyday though ;)

Prolly one of the worst maps I came across. Every house you have to clear out has well designed chokepoints where you can get ambushed as you attempt to clear the place out. Then of course you've got to get off the sodding silo to the ground below :/

WOW!

The level "The Battle of Pointe du Hoc" has got to be one of the best single player levels i have ever played. Very relaistic!!!

I see they've released the 'game of the year' edition on the 360, might pick this up

got it on the pc but not really played it at all

sob

Hi,

I'm on the top of Hill 400 and have to take the 1 remaining bunker. I must be doing something wrong as i have sniped enemies until i cba anymore and they STILL keep coming. Any ideas how to proceed?

Don't wait, that's the only advice I can give. COD2 has been developed with a good AI so whilst many other games will allow you to sit back and let the PC take on itself, COD2 won't. I'm afraid you're gonna have to get in with the action.

Hill400 did take an age for me, and the only tip I can give which seemed to work was to go into the bunker itself, pick off as many as you can and every once in a while, throw a smoke grenade outside for cover run around the bunker taking a few more out and back to safety of the bunker.

It's a toughie.

Yeah. If you keep on waiting and not advancing, then the mysterious hand grenade of god will land at your feet :p

You need to keep forcing the game to advance to the next checkpoint, so your best bet is to push forward. You'll get there, it just takes some serious amount of patience.

I personally found Hill 400 one of the easiest (if not THE easiest) in the game, maybe it's because I was expecting so much bother after WhiteRosers nay-saying.

I think I died 2 or 3 times on the entire level and those were on the defending the base section.
