Got a couple of questions about COD4 on the PS3...

1) when you do the bit in the past, and you're up at the top of the hotel and ready to snipe... i took out the guy making the deal... but when it goes back to the future, the story continues as though i didn't kill him (the bald guy with the beard) - i'm a bit confused as to the flow of the story could anyone enlighten me? is it something to do with the wind and i actually missed the fatal shot or something?

2) is it me or is the bit 15 years previous (when you and your captain are all cammo'd up) one of the best fps sequences yet to grace the gaming world... i though it was absolutely amazing :)

You didn't kill him, he loses an arm afaik ;)

Yes and the camo-ed up level is one the most atmospherics levels in a game for a very long time, top stuff :)

When you shoot him its say something like "You've took his bloody arm off, shock will take care of the rest, lets go"

Bit disappointed as on my screen he took a.50 to the face.

I nearly cried at the end. You get such an emotional bond with Captain Price, don't you. Or is it me being a wuss?

I must admit, I did get quite fond of ol' Pricey, top bloke :)

****LOST ODYSSEY SPOILER AHEAD, READ ONLY IF YOU'RE ON DISK 2 OR HIGHER****

The funeral. It hits a perfect emotional pitch imo, probably the saddest event I've come across in a game.

Yeah, you took his arm off but he lived.

Chernobyl in the game is the best level in any FPS I've experienced - they got the atmosphere and the desolation so perfectly well done. It made Stalker look tame by comparision (and that's saying a lot!).

Captain Price might have lived, you never know... it only shows the medic doing desperate CPR before fading out, ending the game. Who knows?

as soon as i read the post mentioning pricey, i stopped looking at this thread incase anything else was disclosed that i didn't wish to know... but its completed now so all is well...

BLOODY.
GOOD.
GAME.

definitely my favorite game for a long long time... possibly even since metal gear 3... i only got my ps3 on thursday, and apart from playing a couple of demos, i've been on nothing but COD4 - now that thats done i can mix in some online COD play with the two games that came with the console, uncharted and ninja gaiden :)

no idea why, but i enjoyed playing it on the ps3 much more than playing other fps games on pc... just somehow better ;)

The control scheme for CoD 4 is excellently tailored for a gamepad. It's probably the first time where I'd say a gamepad is better than a keyboard/mouse!

Still can't complete this game. It makes me stupidly angry. I hate it.
stuck on the 12 minute thing where you gotta key in the missile abort codes?

i gotta say it took me a good 10 attempts  - but its good that if you do a section quick enough it will give you a checkpoint :)

can't remember another bit being amazingly tricky, is this the bit?

Yeah I think that is the bit.

The part in particular is when you come to a corridor where 2 people jump out with shotguns. You have people shooting at you from boxes down the hallway, then 2 corridors off to the right and left with people shooting at you from there. If I am lucky I can get down one of the side corridors but I am usually left reloading when some ****er comes charging at me to kill me.

I haven't played it for weeks now.

You blow his arm off.

I agree, fantastic chapter and one of the best in gaming FPS history for me.

I found the M4 SOPMOD the best weapon for this bit,

hold at the left side of the start of that main corridor, this will force (invincible) pricey out a bit to cover you. You can easily take out the couple of guys who rush you, and then wait for the couple of reinforcements to come. Sprint up, jump past the two side corridors and take cover to the right of the barrier blocking the corridor. From there you can pop out and clear the corridor ahead.
You can then go back and use a grenade (203 or hand) to clear the guy at the end of each side corridor. You can edge in quite a bit before they see you. Pick a side corridor; as soon as you rush in a guy will run into the silo. Take him down quickly and flash the next corridor. Storm it, take cover and flash the next silo. There will probably be 2-3 guys in there.
The tricky bit is the last connecting corridor back to the main corridor, there will be 2 guys right at the end (in the far silo). Pop out and use the grenade launcher if you can to take them out.

The enemies have a pretty easy pattern to learn, but it did my nut for days on veteran

Gotta use the FBs there, you wont make the next checkpoint if you try to kill everyone./

I've never done it before in a game, but i actually fancy starting it again right away on a harder setting... normally this is what i'd do after maybe a year but i just can't get enough!

when i finally clocked the corridor bit, it was all to do with an initial well placed grenade launcher blast, followed by some fast accurate M4A1 Sopmod (this is the best gun i've ever used in an FPS! - can't seem to get it in the MP mode tho?) action... then push up... always push forward and the boys will follow...

but yeah to get the checkpoints be quick ;)
