COD4 auto updates?

I'm sure the game used to have an "Update" button when I ran it and got to the menu. Nowadays I have to manually see if a patch is out and find a place to download it from. Is this usual?

Secondly what do most people use for joining friends games? Is it a case of always finding the IP address and using the "Connect" command?

For me on the Main menu it will say "New patch avaliable" you click the link and it takes you to the COD4 website and offers you a download mirror.

For joining friends nothing beats Xfire, add each other and off you go.. you can see which server they are on and even talk in game through it.

You can use XFire. (If you and they have it installed that is)

Cheers guys will check out xfire. I used to get that "Patch available" message but dont anymore. Will try a reinstall!

a few people have mentioned the lack of the update button. afaik it was there after the last patch came out and it has vanished since, dunno how :/
