Every time I play cod4 mp for about 5-10 mins the game exits and brings up the error iw3mp.exe has encountered an error. I looked up manys of websites and they all mention this and that about sound cards but others say sound cards dont matter as they have 3 pcs with different sound cards and it makes no difference.

Anyone got any sugestions?

I have onboard sound from the asus p5q-e motherboard, otheres have said to that plug in your microphone, and i did, but it also didnt work. I have also added in a creative sound blaster 5.1 sound card but also didnt make any difference.

I was having this error too and had a headset with the microphone plugged in. The Headset/microphone was plugged into the sockets on the back of the motherboard by the usb ports etc. However, my case also has a front head phone and microphone socket which were plugged into the motherboard. All I did was unplug this front set so it no longer worked and I stopped getting the error.

Maybe try disabling your sound card & onboard sound in device manager and playing the game to see if you can (obviously just as a test). If it plays find then the problem is due to your sound devices.

updates my drivers there, audio drivers, chipset drivers and my gfx driver, I'm still getting this stupid error, its so annoying, im at the point of formatting my pc just to see.

I had that the other day.

Left it till the next day and it worked fine. Been working fine since. (ofcourse no I said that it wont, lol)

Done the stereo mix thing, this didnt solve the problem either, I formatted today, installed all new fresh drivers, and I even put an audigy 2 sound card in just to see and disabeled the on board sound, this also didnt help, im getting the same error.

Will I have to delete the game and start from the beginning again? I really dont want to lose my progress in multiplayer.

And would my overclock have anything to do with it?

If thats true cod4 is the only thing that has a problem with it. This is the details I have overclocked to:

That didnt work for me but uppon abit of reserch I found out that it is punk buster that was causing my problem. It wasnt detecting the game properly and when it was trying to validate me it crashed. reinstall punk buster fixed me for now anyhow.

a friend of mine recently formatted, and didnt back up his profile... he downlaoded a profile and changed the key.. and had this problem. so i guess if u have downlaoded the same profile a reinstall **** help and just use the standard profile. if not then i dont know :P

i had this prob with COD4 a long time ago, i think i had to manually install/update Punkbuster quite a few times for it to work.. the Punkbuster website is very useful and the staff answer queries fast, gl

if u want to do a reinstall and keep your multiplayer progress.

simply go to the COD4 folder in activision, find your players folder and make a back up and put it somewhere safe.

reinstall and patch the game and join a multiplayer server. (this creates a fresh "players" folder)

exit the game and go to the cod4 folder, over write the players folder with your old saved one and you will be back to your old multiplayer position, including your key set up etc.

hope this helps
