Is it me or does this thing fail more than a failboat loaded with the contents of GD?

There you are, enjoying a nice game of Cod4 Free4all, and suddenly you are gunned down by chopper. The first time this happens is mildly grating. The second time is annoying.

By the 10th time, you are ready to hurl inanimate objects at the wall. On some servers it often gets so bad there is basically a queue of choppers waiting their turn and there is never really a time when there isnt one in the sky. This is a huge problem with the more open maps.

It's horifically unbalance - a flying pwnmobile basically comes along and kills everything thats outside with no input or skill on the part of the player who it belongs to.

It's totally craptastic.

There's a big thread for discussions like this, keeps things tidy.

In 'easy' mode, you can get hit 8 times before you die, more then enough to get to cover, not so in hardcore mode, 2 and your down.

There should be an ability to have it turned off on ranked servers, its not BF2 like stats with a master server, with an easy way to lose your rank due to file corruption...wait.

Let us turn off the plane and choppers, and stay ranked, thanks.

I would agree there, if the player that called it, is lucky enough to die after he calls it there are times where he can have unlimited choppers because as soon as he spawns again he has 7 kills in no time and is ready to call in a new one.

In my opinion the chopper should fly about but the player has to control the gun using some kind of a remote tv link and if someone kills him while using it tough *****.

Would make it a little harder imo

here's me struggling to get around the map without getting shot and after about 45 mins of moving 2 feet from spawning and then getting shot from out of nowhere i manage to break free and actually get somewhere and live longer than 10 seconds some dirty big chopper shoots me up.

instantly put me off the mp side, have since found a server that has it disabled and i quite like the game now :D

Just keep in mind custom servers like that are not ranked, so you will never gain EXP and get better guns etc.
 
Perhaps if there were some AA weapons to balance it, or something, it wouldn't be so bad. In real conflict, helicopters are highly vulnerable to ground fire because they're the slowest thing in the sky.
 
Airstrikes and copters are what made cod4 noob

Along with noob tubers and nades
 
They actually go down pretty quickly if people bother to shoot at it, I can take it down in 70 rounds from my M60 :p

I think the RPGs are pretty good against them...providing the rocket flies straight or by luck you hit it :D
 
Yea but in a close quarters combat fps game with no vehicles you don't want to be lugging an RPG around.

The chopper sucks harder than a Dyson.

Well, another solution would be to only have it in team-based matches.
 
Heh I sometimes carry it when im a sniper, although nowadays I like to carry claymores too :D

I don't play FFA that much, I just find it annoying being shot at as soon as I step away from my spawn spot
 
why does everyone complain about the choppers and airstrikes so much?

the people only get them once per life, and they derserve to get them if they can survive long enough to get 7kills in a competetive enviroment, just hide from the things if they're flying past you, dont see why everyone finds it so hard
 
A stinger or something of the kind would be nice to even the balance up - those things have been around since the 80s, I'm sure a modern army could get a few to a battlefield :)

Slightly OT, but for some reason those three words made me laugh uncontrollably when I read the sentence, nice choice ;)
 
The stinger even makes an apperance in the single player. If there was points to be had for shooting down the chopper, more people would shoot at it. TBH, im sick of getting shashed to bits by airstraikes when im either underground/inside a building/no where near it. The chopper can also shoot through buildings, inside bunkers etc. they are horribly unbalanced and tbh they are what are gonna kill the multiplayer environment Along with the throw nades the length of the map / explosions which decimate the entire team. And they do too.
 
1 mag from a support gunner will take it down...

not really hard either stay in cover or be the guy to shoot it down.
 
It's all well and good to say stay in cover but these things ruin the game

You can't say surviving for 5/7 kills is terribly hard - You shouldn't really deserve anything for surviving that long

It should be done like this

5 for UAV
7 for chopper
10 for airstrike

An example is CoD:UO, to get Artillery you needed 40 kills.
 
I dont mind airstrikes as it needs to be aimed by the player & no different from the BF games & there is a warning that its on the way & you can see what direction its going to come from & i manage to avoid them a bit more now, but the chopper takes the cake.
 
If you are playing with experienced players, the chopper goes down as soon as it is up. Its very fragile and 2-3 people shooting at it will kill it real quick - as in like 5 seconds. RPGs are not required.

If you are on a server with n00bs, or you yourself are a n00b - then you must quickly learn where all the good hiding spots are on each map.

Its a nice feature, and so is the airstrike. I guess they could change the required kill streak to make it less available.

Personally, I mostly play on 12-20 man HQ servers and airstrike/chopper spam is not much of an issue.
