thought i'd ask here cus the rest of the internets are teh usless.

3 of my friends and i all picked up CoD4 on the pc today, in the hope of playing together in a few matches.

the problem is we cant work out how.

tried steam and xfire, xfire works if one of us joins a dedicated server from the list, we can follow them.

but what were were hoping for is the option for one of us to host the game, and the other 3 to join.

if anyone has any idea if this is atall possible, any help would be greatly appreciated.

You would need to buy a 4th copy to run as the dedicated server, preferably on a separate machine, unless you have powerful system ie Q6600 4GB ram

so when it says server Dedicated: no/lan/ internet

which do i pick?

if i choose no, it goes into a game, if i choose internet i get a console come up

is there anyway to bring up my details so i can link it to them so they can join that way?

As far as I'm aware for your friends to join over the internet, you need to start a dedicated server, and configure it using the console. Then on a separate/same pc using a DIFFERENT CD KEY/ANOTHER COPY OF THE GAME install and connect to it, then your friend can join via Xfire, or you can give them the IP address that you configured for the server.

just find a dead server somewhere and if someone joins ask the politely if they would leave as you are playing a 2v2 game. Don't tell them to leave otherwise you could just end up with them staying to annoy you :)

I have set up a server and played the game on the same CD key before. I can't remember if it was a listen server or a dedi, but it is quite possible. If you set up a server and no one can join it, you may need to open some ports.

Just create a server, selected NO next to dedicated, make it private and set a password, give password and IP to friends and ask them to join. Simples :)

probably need to forward the port on your router if you actually want people to be able to join aswell
