Hi guys ive recently upgraded my pc which also included me upgrading to vista 64 bit. I have been playing cod4 on my pc for 2 days with no problem. Now it has started to crash....

I have all uptodate drivers for everything, ive also reinstalled all of them and reinstalled cod4.

But when playing single player it is fine, when i try to switch to multiplayer mode a message pops up saying do you want to run in safemode if i click yes or no it still crashes.

Message pops up saying iw3mp.exe has failed to work and i get the following message

Do you have onboard realtek sound? There are issues to be had with cod4 multiplayer and realtek cards.

The way i fixed it - though i don't know which step actually fixed it:

Rclick on volume icon in taskbar and go to recording devices, then rclick and select "show disabled devices" and unmute stereo mix

Also have you changed which port you get the sound from ie. my problem - usually i have speakers plugged into the back port, but for a LAN when it stopped working i had headphones in the front. I plugged them in the back.

Between these two fixes i managed to get it working again. No promises though as lots of people have problems with this hardware

I had the same problem, turns out i need a microphone plugged in for it to work...very weird, but it works ;)
