COD4 MW2 MAX PLAYER COUNT 8V8

No there won't be any official servers was my understanding?

I'll eat a hat if the PC community doesn't have 64 man servers up by christmas.

Games are through matchmaking only, maybe some private games, but were not able to use dedicated servers, which means we have the true meaning of a console port on our hands..

Have you ever played on a 32v32 in Cod4 as your wording sounds as if you have not & i for one like the 32v32 & its not as if everyone was forced to join a 32v32 server, choice is the key.

Yes but only briefly. Always favoured headquarters games so this was what I tried (I think). It just felt like a spamfest where I was unable to get my bearings before getting shot. Tried the map by hosting the server and it just seemed so much smaller and closed compared to that of UO that was I actively playing on LAN day in day out.

Maybe it's worth another try then?
Any particular maps you'd recommend with wide open spaces and buildings?

Some maps are a bit on the small side but the admins can exclude them in the rotation.

It takes getting used to with tactics to avoid getting spammed constantly but the gameplay may just not be to your liking.

Can't stand any multi player game with player limits less than 32, 40 is my preferred minimum sweet spot. (Except MP driving games, because it's difficult enough getting 5 people around the tracks, never mind anything in double digits!)

Wow, way to get that completely wrong.

The 8 vs 8 doesn't matter a smidgen to all you PC gamers because there'll be people hosting servers with 64 slots and such. For consoles 8 vs 8 is perfectly acceptable. And that's probably not going to stick forever anyway.

Lol, try actually reading the thread first. It's 8v8, matchmaking only on the consoles and PC.

Oh dear, I seem to be either moronic, a child or old. Despite owning a PC and being into PC gaming for years...

Meh, you know what I mean. Everything's being dumbed down for Joe Casual Gamer these days. What I was getting at was why when most casual gamers play on the Xbox, does Infinity Ward feel the need to do this on the PC, where 99% of users can figure out how to use the server browser properly?

When you want to player a multiplayer game on PC, in the past. You’d have to scroll through a Server Browser which listed every available server which was hosted by individual server admins. Each had their own private rules, mods, or ways of playing the game. Most players would also use the server browser to find just the best quality game (based on PING). With IWNET matchmaking, it takes all that into account for you.

I mean, seriously, it ain't hard.

Because it sells better. More people can access the product and so they make more money. Why create a complete different game on one platform? If all the maps are designed for 8v8 games then cramming more players in isn't going to be a great experience anyway. As has been proven many times with CoD4 :)

How do you know that most casual gamers play on the XBox? Alledgely it sold more on the PC than any other format, are you really trying to say they are all hardcore gamers? The PC is the largest casual game platform in the world after all. Maybe all the market research IW and Activision have done has shown that the hardcore gamer isn't all that big a market for them and so are tailoring their game for the majority of their customers?

However just clicking on "Play" or whatever is a much better user experience for the player that doesn't care. If they make up the bulk of the userbase then its a sensible business decision.

Just one thing - I know he states examples in his post and he never mentions higher than 16 but i'm obviously missing the part where it says that is the maximum limit the game will be capable of supporting/allowing.

Seems a bit of conclusion jumping to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if they release 32v32 patch as a DLC for £19.99.... With an extra map and pink camouflage as bonus material.

8v8 is good news tbh - less spam! It's the matchmaking stuff and lack of Dedicated servers that are the issue

This really, I enjoy playing 4*4 servers - more sneaking around as others have said. But I also enjoy playing modded servers :(

Why are you defending this? It may sell better which is a reasonable excuse for IW to go down the p2p route if they have lost all respect for the PC community, but the quality of the game is severely reduced for the gamer. IW reduce the quality of our gaming experience and make more cash out of it, a round of applause for IW please.

Also, we used to have a choice. If you liked 8v8 then play 8v8. My sweet spot was 12v12. If people like 32man servers then let them have it. There were better ways to go about this, just removing dedicated servers was not it. People may buy into the "making the game easier and more accessible to gamers" stuff, but all this has done for me is reduce my options and created a highly inferior experience.

Then why design them for 8v8?
Why not have 16vs16 on the consoles too, and design maps for 16v16?
