COD4 running slow?

Hey, just purchased cod4 and installed patch 1.4.

When I started the game with the optimal settings I was only getting like 12fps. So now I have had to put everything on medium and turn thing like shadows off. Tbh I thought my system would be able to run this game fine. I have a 22" monitor but I still only had the resolution at 1024 x 768.

Even now i'm still only getting 30-60fps?:(

Anyone got any ideas

4gb ram
vista 64

Has to be a system related problem, because even at those settings and res, you should be hitting well over 100fps.

Try seeing what drivers people are using in the main COD4 thread. The same happened to me with COD2 about a year ago with my ATi card. Turned out the drivers had an issue with the game engine and severly hammered performance. Wierd since every other driver worked flawlessly.

Failing that, make sure that nothing is throttling or overheating. :)

Something a bit dodgy going on there. I'm playing on a 3.2ghz C2D, GTS320 and 4gig PC5300. at 1680x1050 it runs at 40-120fps mostly. 169.28 drivers with the 1.4 patch.

The game does seem to be fairly cpu intensive judging by the performance monitor display on my G15, with most cores being well utilised (maybe 80%+). Even so, I would have thought you would be fine.

i only just downloaded cod4 today (steam) and started playing it, im amazing how well it does run really. 1920x1200, everything up full in the options, 2xFSAA and 8xQ enhance in the drivers/....very little slowdown and it looks amazing.

Thats not really making me feel any better, lol

In the NV control panel, set you AA and AF to Application Controlled then stick the ingame settings to Max.
Done the trick for me.

I'd recommend uninstalling your current drivers, run driver cleaner to purge out any reg settings etc you may have, and then install the 169.28 driver set. Try running the game with default driver options and then go back to tweak them afterwards if things are improved.

Well i think you need to start ruling out individual components. Can you try your hardware in another machine if possible.
Personally i think its a software/driver conflict though.
Have you tried reinstalling the soundcard drivers ?

whats your backup regime like ?

if you've got multiple HDs etc.. id reformat. If like me you take a disk image every couple of months, id just take one before you do it, and if the reformat is the same just revert back to it.

i usually find a reformat every couple of years helps clean out all the crap from your system.

Have you installed chipset drivers for your motherboard?
PCI-E slot running at 16x?

Not sure. I have installed nvidea nForce4 drivers. and have updated the bios. Is it not suppost to run at 16x out the box though?

Unfortunately I don't have another pc to do that. And yes I have tried installing some new sound card drivers, but just because they got updated. (Using the built in sound card not a separate one)

I have a backup HD, could try this bit of a pain. How can I take a disk image, thanks

Ok I reformated my HardDrive. reinstalled all the drivers and hotfixes ect (169.28). I installed rivertuner and set the fan to 100%

But none of this has fixed my problem. Just ran 3dMark06 and only got 3112.:(

I have asked the asus forum what my settings should be in the bios, so just waiting for an aswer. All day trying to sort this out and i've got nowhere

What Res are you running at cos if its 1600x1200 or above your Gfx Card will struggle with all settings to max.

3dmark score doesnt work for me. I think you've just copied and pasted the location URL rather than the compare URL

anyway, as for whats going on. couple of things to check

1) is your CPU overheating and throttling
2) is your memory faulty, try maybe 2 sticks with 2gb and see how that goes
3)install some other games and see if its slow in them also, we could be seing a co-incidental 3dmark and COD problem, not a system problem.
