COD4 V Crysis

I really dont understand why crysis gets all the praise it does?
Its gameplay IS linear regardless of what people are saying
Linear? Linear in comparison to what, exactly? While yes, it's not completely wide open, it's still one of the more open shooters available. In comparison to the other "big" shooter releases in the last three or four years, it's by far the least linear of the bunch, possibly only bested by Far Cry.

It's also hilarious to call Crysis a linear shooter in a thread about CoD4 vs Crysis. CoD4 is probably the most on-rails shooter in the history of the world. Each play through will always be pretty much exactly the same without any compromise. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but in terms of how open it is, it does make Crysis seem like TES4:Oblivion.

Anyway, it gets a lot of praise because it is a very good looking and very enjoyable shooter with plenty of replay value. Plus, there's nothing like killing a Korean with a watermelon! Screw knives and guns, fruit is the future.

It's interesting that the sniper level on COD4 seems very popular & yet you get only 2 shots at most to kill the bloke or it reloads to try again, kill him & that's the end of sniping.

Get yourself the sniper gun & scope on Crysis & keep it all thru several levels where you can snipe to your hearts content. Where's the comparison ?

I don't think it's so much the sniping people like about it, more the level with the sniping. I'm definitely a big fan of Crysis and think it's far and away the better game, but that level was excellent. Running around in all the camouflage, hiding from the patrols and running building to building, then the escape after attempted assassination.

LOL. Well said mate.

These guys here got 8800's and that is the reason they dont understand. Once they get a 4870 or better graphics card in the future they will understand what we do.

As for the game being linear. I lol @ that. COD4 is so much more linear. In Crysis I get a different experience every time. Some say its too easy, play on Delta then you losers.

Its gameplay IS linear regardless of what people are saying, the story is pretty pants and doesnt even finish in the game.

it

Linear in PC games means you have only the preset path to follow & can't really deviate far from it.

Some of the early levels in Crysis are massive & you can take a different path each time you play, with some of the comments on here I wonder if some of the posters have even played crysis or otherwise they have a different version to mine.
Warhead is more linear but still leaves the totally dead & lifeless COD4 dead & buried as far as comparisons go

For the WHOLE experience, as in what you felt after completing the game and sitting back, I would be honestly surprised if anyone rated Crysis above COD4. Yes it's more linear, yes it doesn't get any different no matter how many times you play it, and yes, it's not as technically (graphically or otherwise) advanced...

But my god, tell me you never been more immersed at the end where you're all lying there dying, and you have to shoot Imran in the face. The whole story, the voice acting (especially), the atmosphere. It has it in spades.

I grew to really like Crysis, but I still sat back after completing it with no real connection to the game. I sat back after completing COD4 and had to immediately ring a friend to recount the whole story!

COD4 looks like 8/10

Crysis looks like a 9/10

Crysis = Summer Glau
CoD4 = Jade Goody

CoD4 is so overrated, I thought the single player was **** and it took me months to get around to completing it.

The gameplay is stale and hasn't changed or improved since the first more or less, the addition of regenerating health since CoD2 was also retarded.

Come on, Call of Duty indeed looks nothing like Crysis, it's more or less understandable why cod4 runs so well compared to crysis...
I agree, crysis is just bad, in terms of gameplay, but it's very very pretty and I occasionally enjoy playing it just for the gfx.

CoD4 has low res textures, simple physics and small maps...

@ Margaret:

Lol ! noob tbh, cod4 takes 4 hours to complete on normal...

Whilst I enjoyed CoD4, nothing comes close to the feeling of openess that some of the levels in Crysis give. The level where you start at the top of the hill under heavy bombardment and have to take out the AA guns before sinking the battleship in the docks 2 bays along the coast is just supreme! I've done that level so many times and each time taking a different route and strategy......can't think of anywhere in CoD4 that lets you take any strategy more complex than hide behind box and duck whilst shooting.

wow that long, i loaded the game, pushed left mouse button and the end cutscene came on, or at least thats how it felt, though i do have some stuff embedded in my brain about radical ultranationalists murdering villagers

I don't think Crysis looks that great maxed when played at around 30 fps. A game with less detail but at a constant 60+ fps looks a whole lot better in motion.

Why?

Frames per sec plays a big part in how 'good' a fps looks to me, and something that you can run cap at 85 has a big advantage over something that struggles to hit 30 simply because the gameworld looks that much more solid and real. The motion blur also makes Crysis look like, well, a blurry mess.

Turn off motion blur of you don't like it ?
Tbh, also stop imagining things, are you seriously saying crysis looks worse in motion than cod4? I think you should go to specsavers, asap...

COD4 fans won't be convinced, there are loads of similar threads all over the net comparing the two games, as far as I am concerned COD is for Cr*p On Disk & having bought the game because of all the 'wow! graphics are amazing, better than Crysis' , I found there was nothing original whatsoever, should have had more sense as COD3 bored me to tears ,won't catch me again with COD5,6,7,,8 & however long this tediousity goes on for,lol

I am a CoD fan and I'm convinced.
CoD4 looks **** compared to crysis, even more so in motion.
Gameplay though, is another matter, CoD4 imo was one of the most enjoyable sp games ever, and is one of the best mp games ever.

CoD3 wasn't made by infinity ward.
Original? Well tbh, I reckon they don't need anything more original, more of Cod, CoD:UO, CoD2 and CoD4 will do for me, it are imo superb games.
They will catch me again in cod6, dunno about cod5, depends how the other developer makes it, I love WW2 but heard cod3 was poor ( never played it though as I don't own a console.

I'm sure when hardware that can run Crysis maxed at a high res and with a constant a high frame rate exists it'll look awesome in motion. At 30 fps and under it just looks like a mess to me.
