Quick question; If I buy CoD5W@W on Steam, can you still play with CoD5 players who aren't using the game on Steam and vice versa?

Contemplating buying it on Steam in the sale but this will influence my decision.

You sure can,

Steam is just the delivery client, but also makes it easier seeing when other mates who have steam installed are playing, even if they bought the retail shop product.

Steam is excellent nowdays. Back in the day, 2 possibly 3 years ago i wouldnt have touched steam with a barge pole hated it.

Client could do with a bit of a overhaul though looks wise lol. But works ace. :D

Yah I love Steam think it's awesome plus just bought STALKER and Clear Sky and Red Orchestra for less than 25 quid! Bargain!

Was looking at some of the full packs and whilst they're mad value I don't think i'd play half the games/got most of 'em already.

Edit. Ya know how if you bought the retail version of Half Life 2 and you registered it into steam, if I buy CoD4 retail can I do the same? Cus even with the sale, CoD4 is cheaper elsewhere.

Don't take my word for it Swi1ch but I don't think you'll be able to register COD4 under Steam.

I think it's only for games that are associated with Valve that you can register, as has been my experience anyway.

That's alright tbh I just like Steam as it keeps all my games in the same place. I put CoD2 and Company of Heroes into Steams games list so I have them all in one place so I'm sure I could with CoD4.

The last time I used Steam I think you could add a shortcut into your Steam folder but I'm sure it has changed a lot since then.

Best to get a second opinion. :)

yup, you can place non steam game's shortcuts into the Steam client.

Best thing is, the Steam overlay will then work on that game :)

As said,

You can place non steam game shortcuts into the steam engine.

Its not a bad client and has a decent footprint on system resources so i dont mind it running now :)

You may have probs with running COD5 many have, another patch is due over the next few weeks that will help solve these probs, personally mine works with only 1 or 2 issues....

Multiplayer is a pain. Server authentication errors etc. You have to refresh servers and quit the game, then restart the game without refreshing servers before entering a server. I understand many are having this problem, otherwise it all runs fine.

Another word of warning, from personal experience, owners of Steam:Titan Quest cannot play with owners of the original media.
