Codecs?

I've just completed a fresh install of Xp, ive got media player 11, real player, quick time on there but i'm having problems playing avi, etc

What's the best set of codecs to get?

Uninstall real player, quick time
Install real player, quick time alternative.
Install FFDSHOW
