Codecs

I ususally use klite codec pack but been thinking it might have been causing some performance probs in games so i removed it now i can watch mkv files in wmp anymore or ogm files and some avi files. I went to a codec site and tryed xp codec pack as it looked like just 6 codecs which got most working. But worms armageddon intros didnt work properly and made playing the game difficult as it doesnt work cos of the codec pack as when i uninstalled the pack worms was fine again.

Im looking for a no frills very small codec pack that supports the major used files i.e OGM, AVI, MKV

You don't need codec packs. Get MPC-HC and Haali Splitter.
Possibly add:
ffdshow - MPC-HC has the same codecs internally but ffdshow lets you do all sorts of things to improve video quality.

Or install VLC media player which plays everything that I can possibly throw at it.

Prefer to use wmp 11. vlcplayer is for emergencies when somit doesnt work right in wmp lol.

CCCP contains ffdshow and is rather out of date and full of unncessary stuff.

More or less out of date than the K-Lite pack? And more full of unneccessary stuff than K-Lite? The latest CCCP is January 2008 and I don't see how it can be that full of useless codecs when its mission is to include only the codecs people will need.

I never said anything about K-Lite, and its mission could well be anything but that doesn't mean it has achieved it.

the quality sucks balls with vlc. i find a lot of my material is noticeably blockier played using it. that's just my expereince. of course YMMV. i prefer ffdshow/mpc.
