Codemasters bought by Take-Two Interactive. Cancel that. EA

Completely missed this news until last few mins...

Didn't Codemasters buy Slightly Mad Studios (Project CARS) in the last ~18 months?

EA Games are going to have heck of a market grip on driving games!

Originally Sensible Software, that was later sold to Codemasters.
Bring back all the good companies before they merged / were bought out

Psygnosis
Ocean
Team 17
Probe
Rainbow Arts

Any of these logos and some basic music meant a great game was in store

Edit. I guess the fate of all companies is either survive by buying others out or merge. Didnt DMA Design eventually form into what is now known as Rockstar?

To be honest, those companies made great games during it's time, but when the Playstation came around they just couldn't produce good quality games, remember sensible soccer on the PS1? Back on the Mega Drive I really liked Electronic Arts, now look at them

the last decent title codemasters released was TOCA touring cars on psx1. After that everything else was basically garbage dressed up nicely to make money

The original toca was great qualifying the lot and commentary on replays ?

remember the old F1 games had murray and martin doing commentary as well, not sure who made those ones though probably also on PS.

what happened to racing games having commentary

Good point, especially about EA.
Need for speed 2 SE and other late 90s EA games were fantastic though

I loved TOCA, aside from the stupid arcade elements (not being able to continue to the next race unless you score points), but Colin Mcrae Rally came after TOCA and was better.

codies took on sms to build a stronger port folio then got the WRC license for rally which is a massive thing. f1 does well. so the building up to this sell has been pretty clear for a while. kinda gutted me as ive been close and helped on the dirt rally games even featured in dirt rally 2.0. you could tell the family feel though that what it used to be like is pretty much gone and its big money business.

TOCA 4 way split screen was great. Usdd to play 3 on one keyboard (numpad, cursor, wasd) one one joyoad. If you held 3 keys the it locked all keys so no one could turn. So much fun with mates :D

Maybe I am naive but I was hoping that the EA takeover may finally bankroll a VR version of F1 franchise given the recent release of star wars squadrons?

Presumably they will be forced to introduce speed boost or overtake tokens via the in-game shop now.

"Want to drive the Merc ? " - that will be 1000 "Codeytokens" - (cash equivalent £16)
