I've played Dirt Rally with a controller since initial first Early Access launch and its fine. They have put quite a lot ofbeffort into the controls to ensure its playable. Its much better than some other Sims like PCars where pads are almost useless. I wouldn't say a wheel is required at all.

Just remember to brake a LOt earlier than Dirt 3 has made you think is possible ;). I spent the first hour going straight on at every corner.
 
Is there any online multiplayer with DiRT Rally? I appreciate it's all timed stages but I assume you can play a championship with a friend or at least see their best times etc??
 
rally cross has mp but its mainly single player.

there are live events where you challenge times also.

so daily event,weekly,monthly and so on.

on monday they adding more content which should be R4 cars which should mean maybe 4 more cars including Evos.
 
I've decided to go for DiRT Rally and initial impressions are very positive!

Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely dire at it - I think I finished over 2 minutes off the pace on my first race! :p

I do like how it's unforgiving though - very RBR in that the slightest clipping of a roadside rock ca ruin your entire day! (not easy to complete a night race when your headlights are smashed to pieces!)
