Codemasters

Toca got rebranded to Grid. Grid 2007 is one of the best racing games out there, along with Autosport and Dirt 2 & 3 (haven't played the others).
Yeah I know that but still miss a proper touring car game. Unfortunately btcc isn’t popular enough these days so won’t happen.

I wouldn’t bother with the other dirt games as they are rubbish compared to 3.

Codemasters used to be known for quality racing games.

I also have pleasant memories of their budget titles for the c64, if you saw their logo it was mostly a good game.

now they just pumping out sequels to the same game every year... all heil EA

our gov should never have let all our gaming companies be aquired... we could have had a massive gaming industry, as well as loads of other industries but tour gov doesn't protect any British business from American parasites.

Whole country feels like a pension fund for americans

These bring back the most memories - mainly from Amiga days growing up as a kid

Psygnosis
Codemasters
Gremlin Interactive
Sensible software
Ocean
Bullfrog
Virgin Interactive
Imagine Software

Codemasters I'll always remember for Fantasy world Dizzy. It came on a small yellow square box, like this - https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/c64/568628-fantasy-world-dizzy/boxes/110853

The Oliver Twins created the early Dizzy games including Fantasy World Dizzy. Codemasters were the publisher and as the Dizzy series grew, Codemasters collaborated with Big Red Software for some of the later games such as Prince of the Yolkfolk.

The Oliver Twins are often forgotten about, they're not even included in that list of defunct developers that Coolasmoo posted.

Hard to argue with that. They are buying up a lot of football clubs now as well.

While I agree with this part of the blame has to come from the companies themselves as they could have said no. I also don't think the government should get as much blame as they do because they shouldn't have a sale in a company unless it's going to affect the whole sector.

If the companies did better (not just the gaming companies) then they wouldn't of needed to sell and they could have been the ones buying. From the early 90's ea and codemasters were probably on the same level business wise. The business owners either didn't run the company good enough (midway) or they chose the money and while the government could have helped with tax breaks and what not they didn't chose to sell.

Codemasters and Masterronic £2 tapes on the carousel! Some of those games were utterly brilliant but far too many to mention. Good times fingering between volume and tone dalliance on the tape deck connected to the speccy!

I always drive past a sign post Codemasters on it near Southam and just found it they have HQ there! lol

Looks like still around, even got a job advertised
It's pretty isolated, you either have to drive into leamington spa to get stuff or to tescos down the road. Southam is utter trash for shopping. The canteen is okay but expensive to go to everyday. The codemasters site is fairly large itself.

I've been driving pasted it for years as my GF was in Leamington at the time. Never see the actual place, the road works are a nightmare around Dallas Burston Polo, infact have been for years! (all that HS2 crap) I only go that way (or Gaydon way) to get to Asda these days or see some mates in Leamo.

Has an independent studio ever got better after being bought by a large co like EA or Ubi ??

Presumably they buy them to take out the opposition rather than improve them.

Who knows really its not like they were creating anything new before the sale.
At least they still exist and the jobs/studios remain in the UK.
I imagine EA bought them for the licenses they held at the time and to prop up criterion and combine efforts on racing games.
