Coffee table build

My PC isn't really a gaming rig, I download all of my programs/films via torrent..most of them being 20gb-40gb files, I then play those on my 64" plasma screen.

I have found with lesser PC's that they will struggle when asked to display fast moving scenes on larger files, during overclocking we also found that it's nothing to do with the graphics card but the processor itself, we came to the conclusion that there is no rendering being done so the graphics card has a reasonably easy time.

Like I say it's not a gaming rig it's for displaying films in 7.1 format with 3D 1080 etc

Anyway, my present overclocked watercooled PC does just fine but I wanted a showpiece for the cinema room in the new house so I built this, it may be overkill for what I will be using it for but i dont mind that.

It cost £30 so was cheaper than the wood to build it and saved me a bit of work.

It's far from finished, I have a lot more work to do but thought you guys might like to see it, I had the glass blacked out with 30% film today but dont have any pics, these I took at the weekend during a "hangover" build so there is not many and they aint very good lol.

I need to get some PCI riser cables for the graphics card and soundcard, I think I need shielded type? Anyone suggest where I can get them/which ones to go for?

Is there anything I have missed/you would change, I am far from an expert on computers and am just picking my way through this with little knowledge really!

I'll upload a few more when I am finished.

Thanks, it looks a lot better than it does in the pics and I haven't finished it yet so if you guys think it's ok then I must be on the right track!

The tint I had fitted yesterday hid a lot of the small imperfections in the carbon film that I wasn't happy with!

I hope to have the table against the wall with trunking to the TV or the HDMI under the floor (cinema room is in the converted loft area)

I could use it as a coffee table and run the wires under floor before the carpet goes down but I dont know if I like the sound of that.

Yea under floor or it will be against the wall with trunking but having it seemless would be great, I kinda want that look where it seems totally disassociated from the rest of the system even though it is the heart of the cinema room.

I really do not know much about the subject and after reading this build thread.

It seemed he had issues with unshielded cables, if I don't need them I wont get them....Spent WAY to much cash on this already.

What about the power connections, the wires that came wit the PSU are way to short, can I buy extensions from somewhere?

Had some more time to spend on the rig, I went for a 3M screened riser for the GPU, Monsoon connections on the 19mm cooling hose and Alchemy cables, I fitted temp sensors to the pump reservoir, GPU and CPU.

I'll let the pics do the talking, plenty more work to be done and still waiting for parts to arrive to finish the project.

Agreed it would look better in hard pipe but it looks a pain to bend and I have bought the ends now so will stay with what I have.

I bought blue UV coolant from EK, I also bought a some UV hose to replace the B&Q stuff I dry fitted with.

Also how would I straighten the pipe unless it was pinned to the case?

Just need a few more wires/new hose/coolant/power switch to be fitted and we are done, I fitted the sides back on and mounted the radiators, gave the UV led strips a test run.

It's a blow through system so three in and three out, in the center of the table you see a grilled area which just allows air to pass through, the air is drawn over the top of the cylindrical reservoirs which in turn also aids cooling.

There are other holes in the case but this is just to allow wires to drop down into the area below so they are hidden from view.

It was an easy build, only a jigsaw and drill needed in the tool department.

I have been running the CPU and cards at 100% for literally hours on end (with FAH programme) and even in warm weather it tops out at 60c on the watercooled card and processor, the processor temp changed to max of 80c when I fitted the fan cooled card to the motherboard because of convection heating, the fan cooled card runs at 92c and dumps a load of heat into the MB.

The pics really do not do it justice, When I get pics of it fitted into the new room it should look a lot better than in the pics above.

I could have just gone with one but I wanted to take up more room so I used 4 smaller ones, nothing more than that.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

I started playing a few games so added the second 290 card, I also watercooled it after having heat issues with the GPU seeing over 90c and shutting down (when running FAH), I guess this is partly due to the hot weather we have been having...Still I thought it would be ok to add another couple of radiators and some more fans, the upgrades will go below the main deck and should also hide the wires that can be seen if you look under the deck of the PC/coffee table so it will make it look a bit more pleasing to the eye.

I was going to have a custom made rad but a couple of off the shelf ones seem like they will fit ok so have gone with that.

I'll take some more pics of the PC after the upgrades now it is installed in it's home at the new house.

Thats a very nice build,

i couldn't help but notice the sound card is not plugged into an x1 slot, how do it work?

It's a x1 to usb adapter thing I got from ebay, cost about £10, I found that there is a limit to how far you can extend the soundcard/GPU away from the slot before it just doesnt work anymore and the wires are messy so I used that, I have for the moment removed it and relocated the soundcard to the slot due to some nasty interference noise I keep getting (not that relocating helped..)

Thanks for the kind words guys, this wasnt a very hard build and if you can operate a jigsaw and drill you could easily replicate it if you wanted to, the hardest bit was finding the table.

As promised a few more pics of the (almost) finished shizzle, we added a few more fans and some radiators, this thing keeps temps well in check and its overkill on most areas.

Its rigged up to a 65" plasma for home cinema with a yamaha natural sound amplifier pushing 7.1, fronts are 1960's IMF transmission line speakers and the rest are 1990's tannoy sixes.

I have started to game on it but to be fair there is no real difference between my xbox one and this machine unless I am playing in 3d.

I know that this can do 4k resolution so as soon as I can upgrade my TV to support that then the XB1 will be come redundant in the gaming department, it is a pity I will not be able to play halo 5 in 4k as the prices of 65"-80" 4k screens are crazy at the moment.

Please see this thread for the riser info buddy.

mate one thing, are those blue LED lights dimmable, as I personally would find them a bit of a distraction while gaming.

I see your point, yes they are dimmable via the controller if you mean the fan lights, the unit is on my right hand side slightly behind me so it's not too distracting but if lights are the sort of thing that put you off easily it could be a problem.

I have had thing folding for hours on end now and temps do not go over 60c anywhere, warms the room up though .
