Coil Whine is a Problem for Everyone

Been lucky with coil whine, had two cards that would do it, a 9800gtx+ would whine a little when cold, sorted its self out after a while and one of my 7970 lightnings let out a little buzz when been tortured at 1360mhz :D

It's never something that's really bothered me anyhow as I game with headphones on, I find loud coolers more annoying.

At least to me Powercolor are trying to stop it or at least cut it down on their PCS+ cards.

Yup! The fact of the matter is that, coil whine and the whole issue that surrounds it could be greatly silenced if Nvidia's partners actually spent more on quality components, by adding some glue or whatever to the coils, just like Ocuk has to their 970 and Powercolor to their 290 PCS.

And OcUK! :)

Soon see :p

Initially the R9 290 l picked up from the MM clicked and burped like no other card l ever had, now that it is settled in. it is pretty silent. My HD 7970's coil whine became noticeable after l fitted a 3rd part cooler, still no real dramas, did not quite beat my tinnitus :)

my 290x has no whine , I had a 5850 combined with a corsair psu before which squealed really bad. but disabling power saving modes got rid of it. sometimes its not just the gpu.

Only had one that whined, an xfx gtx 280. But it settled down after a few days of heavy gaming. Sadly the card packed in shortly afterwards.

I wonder if he felt that way when Nv pointed on the frames issue to PCPer and the rest?

In the long run that benefited amd though. People had been complaining about hitching performance on crossfire for ages, including a lot of review sites. it took something like that for them to get the thumb out and get it fixed.

True that and I thought that was very low as well. I hate to see these tactics employed and rather they concentrated on beating each other in the performance and feature sets instead of this way.

Love how you choose to ignore certain posts:rolleyes:

Oh dear God, give it a rest and read the thread next time. You will then see what my thoughts were.

Just watch, he's gonna ignore what thesmokingman said all together or he's gonna put together some desperate justification.

Out of the many GFX cards I've owned I only ever had whine from my 7970 and even that was only on the Netflix film choice screen. After seeing some videos of peoples whine I feel pretty lucky
