Cold Feed Fitting for Dishwasher

Hey all,

I was hoping someone could advise a DIY plumbing novice

We are potentially looking at options for having a slimline dishwasher fitted, and I wanted to make sure we had the necessary fittings for the cold feed.

At the moment, we have the washing machine and cold sink tap coming off of the cold feed. I was thinking I may need to install a t-junction fitting (like this) in this red box:

Is my thinking here correct or totally off? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The trouble with that is there will be no way to isolate the dishwasher supply in case of a leak. I think, in your case, I would install a y splitter on the end that the washing machine connects to, at least then you can isolate them both. You can get independently controlled y splitters as well.

That’s a speed shut off valve for the washing machine right? Just turn that off, add a Y splitter - just go with plastic one from screwfix above. Any issues just shut it off there and move the single Back onto that.

This ^^ Replace that plastic washing machine isolator with 1 of these, job done - it'll be much neater too!

Thata what we've got, with an isolator before it for the upwards fitting to be shut off.

The tee will isolate both feeds anyway when switched off?

I would definately recommend changing your plastic valve to a metal one. I used 4 of those JG speedfits and after a year the valve ended up breaking causing a leak, note that we never ever turned the valve but the plastics inside crumbled over time.

Depends which way its connected

. I had to do mine a certain way as that's the only way it would fit.

I wouldn't try to make a cut where your red box is. I'd add a T where your washing machine currently comes off, and add the new outlet there. Lots more room in that area.

To which I'd add be sure to turn the valves on/off every so often or they seize up like both of mine...

I agree, I think it'll be better to add a fitting towards the washing machine end rather than cut the pipe.

What's the insert for/ where's it go?
