Cold start question

It's just ignorance. People don't know or care about these things. Even if you try to explain, it's just too much hassle for them to comprehend showing a bit of mechanical sympathy. Even some owners of performance cars don't even understand the reasoning behind it. How can you be a car enthusiast yet not know about basic engine care?

I don’t see why most people would care given how brief car ownership is and how easily acquired the next car is if the engine does implode.

Exactly, if they aren't really interested in cars, why would they care.

For me, my cars are my hobby. For many, they're just a transportation tool

Modern cars you really don’t need to be concerned about, but it’s always in the interests of mechanical sympathy to take it easy while things warm up.

Older cars are different. In the Allard J2 (a 1950 car with Cadillac V8) we always turn the engine over for 20-30s before switching on the fuel pumps to build some oil pressure, and then keep it below 3k RPM until the engine is up to temperature.
