Over Clocker said:Are you referring to the RAF Tornado's escorting russian spy planes, or to Putin saying he will point nukes at Europe?
Topper said:Thats right, I understand its more of a middle east orientated response. Of course, Russias new found confidence on the world stage what with all that oil and gas, might be sparking thoughts in the minds of the US planners.
The Royal Air Force recently launched two Tornado F3s from Leuchars air base to intercept a pair of Russian Bear Foxtrot spy planes that appeared to be snooping on a Royal Navy exercise code named Neptune Warrior.
It is unclear when the incident occured but it is known that it took place in international air space. There was no contact between the planes. The RAF says that they were just telling the Russians 'We could do this for real if we wanted.'
"It's a throwback to the Cold War when they used to regularly poke and prod at the edges of British airspace and test our reaction times. The whole encounter probably lasted 20 minutes," said Sqn Leader Keith Wardlaw.
As has been pointed out, the US wants to expand its missile defences into Eastern Europe only in order to be able to defend itself from a crippling surprise attack by Iran's huge arsenal of ICBMs. I really cannot imagine why the Russians would feel threatened by it, surely they would have no reason to question the honesty of the Bush AdministrationRussia has test-launched a new intercontinental ballistic missile, Russian military officials say.
. . .
The missile, called RS-24, can be armed with up to 10 warheads and was designed to evade missile defence systems, the Russian defence ministry says. BBC Link
