*** Colin McRae DiRT 2 ***

Well worth the 30 quid i lumped on buying it today.

Games quality from top to bottom, the whole package with the presentation is totaly seemless, improved over grid with the way it's been linked together.

Few issues with the handling, prefered the old stick on track feel of the old mcrea titles, might be issues i have with the short movement sticks, maybe a wheel would solve that.

Aside from though, as said games solid, anyone that enjoyed grid will pretty much enjoy this. Codemasters have got one seriously meaty game engine, as arcade ones go, imho the most enjoyable since the sega model 2.

I was in doubt when I first started playing this game, but I can now say it's absolutely brilliant and although I've nearly finished it, I'm still enjoying it.

Anyone know if it's possible to watch the Colin McRae tribute video again?

Cheers

When you in the trailor, swivel round the menus to the 'Extras' section. Select that then select 'videos' and its in there.

I found being rammed and ramming, great fun myself.

Well, I was trying to get the achievement for cautious impact rating which is nigh on impossible in public games :p

Easy enough to get in a jam session though so I did it that way, now I can ram to my hearts content and get my own back :p

Just downloaded the demo on XBOX Live, yeah I know, I'm a bit late to the party.

1. No co-driver on the long races? Eh? Or am I missing something (Never played Dirt 1 so don't know if it wasn't there either).
2. While I like my different shades of brown and grey in my FPS's, I don't so much in my racing games. This alone puts me off.
3. What's with all the American 20-something "DOOOOOOD" kids talking on the damned radio all the time?

I won't be picking this up. While I'm sure there are a lot of you that like it, in my opinion it shouldn't be bearing the Colin McRae game anymore. This is not what those games were about.

well i've just completed it except i need to do 3 tournaments if/when dirtnet is back up.

thoughts:-

- the graphics are the best i've played on an off road racer
- great arcade handling
- fun game
- online is a laugh if you dont take it seriously and dont bother being too clean (if not racing friends)
- after i unlocked them, i only ever used (mk2 escort, '95 scooby, rs200, 6r4, '93 pajero, stadium truck, dallenbach & prc-1 buggy) they are better than all the rest
- needs more tracks, very repetitive doing the same tracks over & over to finish career

overall a good game while i wait for forza 3 :)

The point-to-point race in the demo is a 'trailblazer' event, basically like a hill-climb but without the hill. In the full game there are actual rally events with a co-driver.

That just the environments used in the demo, the full game has visuals that are varied and truly stunning at times.

You've never heared of Ken Block etc? But yeah, the game is very Americanised.

To be honest I do agree that it is far away from the CMR games of old, but that comes with making the game have mass-market appeal rather than a niche audience. The game doesn't actually bare the Colin McRae name outside of Europe, it's simply known as DIRT 2. You just have to kind of forget the old CMR games and look at it as a new and seperate franchise.

Why can't I download Ghost laps when doing a Time-Trial?

I must have tried 20 times now, I can select a Ghost time, after that go outside to select my car, hit RACE and then I get the message that the download failed :(

I think there's still a problem with the Dirtnet server. You wont be able to download ghosts until its back up and running.

Had that yesterday, managed to get one downloaded just by trying someone else on my friends list.

Got this rented and been playing it for the last few days. Gotta say its a pretty wicked game, the drvijg mechanics make it a great arcade racer and the career mode is decent, although I will echo the criticisms above, like not enough tracks which can make it feel repetetive, the cars don't feel different enough and also o think they could actually add more disciplines. Dirt is crying out for special stages and as personal preference I would love some proper tarmac rallys!

Also since dirtnet is now online proper, what do you all think about it? Personally I think its a very polished implementation, id say its almost on par with burnout in terms of ease-of-use and the netcode has been faultless for me, even on my super slow line.

There's even the added bonus of game invitations taking you straight to an online match. Something xbox users have been enjoying since day 1 no? :p

I hired this game out and I can't get the bloody steering wheel to work with it. Has anyone got the Thrustmaster Ferrari GT Experience Racing Wheel to work with it on the PS3?

It didn't come with the booklet to see if it supports it so I don't know if I am doing something wrong. The wheel was crap with Dirt 1 so maybe they just left this wheel out altogether?
