Colin Murray Dropped from MOTD2!!! YAY!!!

Can't see how changing Murray for Chapman is going to change the core of MOTD2? What they needed to do was bring in some pundits that know what they are talking about. The only one currently is GN on sky and he gets his opinions from various blogs on the internet!

:p

I think there are few good football pundits out there that don't just deal in cliches; G Nev, Lee Dixon, Tim Vickery, James Richardson and Guillem Balague are a few of the only decent ones that spring to mind.

The fact is the general public aren't really interested in people that give interesting opinions and analyse games properly. Do you think the average 35 year old overgrown LAD that comes in from the pub on a Saturday night would sit through a ZonalMarking style take on the day's games? Of course not, they'd rather hear Alan Shearer describe how x player is awesome because of their "pace, power and determination" so they can relay this over copies of The Sun to their mates on the building site on Monday morning.

;)

At least with MNF you now get some interesting analysis of the weekend's games which is an improvement on the Andy Gray years.

Not a fan of Lee Dixon personally :) (better than the muppets on MOTD mind you), Guillem Balague is a strange one, some people can't stand the bloke.

Are Tim Vickery & James Richardson on tv any more? I know they do various columns, blogs and podcasts but haven't seen them on the box?

I meant pundits in general rather than ones on TV, sorry. Both should have TV jobs but they don't get them because the people in charge are stupid.

Balague does my head in sometimes but at the same time it's clear he is informed and generally interesting rather than spouting whatever he's told. Dixon isn't the best by any means either, but relatively speaking (cf. Garth Crooks, Mark Bright, Stan Collymore, Dion Dublin, Robbie Savage, Martin Keown, Kevin Keegan) he's great.

I'd rather they replace the MOTD cast if I'm honest MOTD2 was more enjoyable than MOTD, I didn't have any problems with Colin Murray.

All the MOTD 'pundits' really do is repeat what was said during the Sky coverage earlier in the day and get payed obscene amounts to do it.

If they want to freshen MOTD up, they have to do a number of things...

They should give teams equal TV time. There's one thing I can't stand, and that's being on last. You get zero analysis, and the pundits offer almost no commentary or opinion.

Get a former match official on. Give us the officials insight in to the decisions, good or bad with a reference to a specific rule break. There's always a bad call, so it could be a weekly spot.

Sack "Suicide watch" Lawrenson. That guy makes me want to top myself from boredom and the fact he repeats the same lines every week doesn't help. Hansen too.

More "Gary Neville" style analysis. They clearly have the computer power to prepare more than a dotted line for the offside line. In fact they've begun doing this with possession, although that's a bit meh.

Get a fan on / someone with an extreme opinion. I'm fed up of 2 defenders telling me that "the striker should have done better" or just nodding to any opinion given. They've got time to bleep out bad language if their guest can't control themselves.

Put it on iplayer. I realise this is down to a sky copyright issue, but its madness how they have to show replays before 8am and only MOTD2 is on iplayer, in this day and age.

**** off advertising other sports on MOTD. Half the time they seem to spend advertising the tennis or a random sport during the summer.

I'm fairly sure it came from the dailymail so could be not true, but sounds true, and that is a major reason he was canned was the old footballers on the show(well not sure about LInekar) weren't happy with a non footballer daring to offer opinions or criticising players, something only the might Lawro and Hansen are capable of being former pro's.

Thats the thing I kinda get from Murray the very few times I've watched the show, he's not as completely tame, positive and accepting of the pundits opinion without question as most presenters which is what made him good.

AS for former match officials on the show, hell no, there is nothing new to be discussed about poor decisions, ref's have two eyes and can't see everything, can't see around players and can't get the right call with a split second of seeing something every time because its human nature to second guess and not remember everything perfectly, nor instantly understand what you've seen. How many times have we all seen a foul which on replay wasn't even close, or the other way around. While its discussed with every poor decision, its a time waste and ref's shouldn't become media whores(more than they are). You can frequently see ex ref's on tv after some big decision happened at the weekend, one of them was on the BBC after the Hazard thing, they are usually wrong, make excuses and protect each other, so whats the point of wasting time with ingeniune crap.

Get rid of the biased ex pro's who are rubbish, particularly ones who haven't got a god damned clue what they are talking about ,and keep presenters that aren't whipped and actually press their guests when they say absurd things.

He was actually fun and interesting so I can see why the BBC arte getting rid of him for another bland, dull "safe pair of hands". Yawn. Like your man Dan Walker, he's a nice guy but he's so dry it's cringeworthy at times.

I like Chapman. Initially I wanted to dislike him from his Radio 1 connections but he asks fairly good questions and has won me over when I hear him on 5live.
