I’m looking at a new gaming set up and planned on a good 2k monitor. Iv since been lurking around Reddit gaming set ups and nearly every one has 2/3+ monitors for gaming ? What are they all used for? They all have a monitor to the side in the vertical position or just monitors above and to the side of a central one .

It’s completely thrown me off, is high quality pc gaming now done over multiple screens ?

I imagine a lot of those extra monitors will have nothing more than web pages, Spotify, YouTube, that sort of thing on them with the users main screen being used for gaming.
There might be the odd game where it could be useful having a second screen for game maps etc. Microsoft flight sim and those type probably benefit from multiple screens but for the most part 1 screen is all you need to game on.

Edit: should also mention that folk who stream will make use of multiple monitors - main screen for gaming, second screen for their twitch channel (or whatever they may streaming to)

For a gaming setup, I can't recommend an ultrawide monitor enough.

Literally a game-changer.

Only if your happy with a 27" 16:9 height on a 34" uw. I went 34" uw to a 32" 16:9 then a 42" 16:9 oled. For me 16:9 is better. If I want to run 21:9 i can run a custom res which is equivalent to a 40" uw so best of both worlds.

Yep, it's one of the reasons I never bought a PS5.

Sony in their stubbornness, refuse to support 21:9 resolutions, so a no buy for me.

And this is from someone who bought a PS1/2/4.
My ps5 will stay firmly in my living room on my LG oled my pc is solely for gaming but my budget is only going to stretch to 3060ti level cards or at least that’s what I think based on my very limited knowledge and research i have done so far and I assume and ultra wide wouldn’t be supported by that type of card ?

Of course it would. The 3060Ti is no slouch

Until I upgraded last December, I was running an UW 3440x1440 with a 1070, and it handled it really well.

Sure, on some modern games I had to dial down some options, but I was still happy with it.

The 3060 Ti is significantly faster than a 1070, so I wouldn't worry.

And also, I reckon most people (me included) tend to change GPU'S more often than monitors, so you could regard it as an investment for when you buy that 4/5/6 series down the line.

Another vote for an Ultra Wide monitor, i have tried 1440p /4K 144hz monitors over recent months but now back using my Alienware 34" ultra wide again and god i really missed it and so glad to be back using it.

Definitely this.
There's nothing ultra-low screens can do better per consumed desk space than 16:9.

Was a fan of UW for years, 34" 1440p then went to a 38" 1600p UW. But I've always had a OLED TV in my living room and knew the picture quality was way in front of any of my UW's. When the 42" OLED LG came out I changed over and not looked back since. Picture quality is far more important than 21:9 vs 16:9.

Exactly the same path as me. I couldn't fit a 48" OLED comfortably but the 42" C2 is perfect
