Coming from PC to PS3 - struggling with controller!

So, in the past I've been a pretty hardcore PC gamer, but I don't have the cash just now to build up a decent PC. Been given a PS3 for my birthday, and loving the games that are out (and being able to just chill back on the sofa and play =P) but I'm really struggling to use the controller in FPS games, I can't aim for crap!

I've been playing MAG and Fallout New Vegas, loving the games, and Fallout isn't so bad due to the VATS system, but in MAG I consistently come in the bottom 3-4 players, generally only getting 1-2 kills per game, because I just can't aim fast enough with the stick (with mouse & keyboard on PC I usually come in the top 5, so it's not just because I suck =P)

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone has any tips on making the transition from mouse & kbd to controller as painless as possible, or is it just a case of practicing until I get it? :o

Practise. You now have to get used to the limitation that a pad has. Inaccurate, and have to wait until you are aiming right! I cannot play FPS on consoles anymore! Too used to KB/Mouse. Play GT5 and thats about it!

Practice as been said and also most console FPS have aim assist so try not to be to precise, it does depend on game though.

Grin and bear it I'm afraid. I, like many others, made the same move as yourself a few years a go, and I don't mind using the pad now, I just don't play FPS's like I did on PC. The only one I've given any time to is BC2.

Saying that though, I'd never make the move back to PCs, couldn't bring myself to spend £2k on a decent rig again.

In exactly the same situation but on the 360,it`s annoying when you know you dont suck playing a fps with a kb/mouse,but you constantly see the killcam snap onto you with a "brrrap brrrap" before you even get your crosshairs on them. :D

You don't have to spend anywhere near £2k for a rig! You can get a decent gaming PC for ~£500 ish... like this for example, and it can do so much more than just games of course too!

You have it even rougher because the PS3 pad is awful for FPS games, compared to the 360 controller.

Neither match the mighty mouse and keyboard obviously.

Considering it costs all of ~£400 to make a PC that will produce far better visuals than 360 or PS3 you obviously got ripped off.

...inb4 '£400 is still more than a console' argument, as it's void due to the fact a PC does far more than a console can ever do.

i made this transition just recently, still having issues and know i'm capable of so much more on FPS's but i am now finishing mid-top of leaderboards now.

I made the move from PC to XBox360 about 2 years ago. It just takes time and practice. On most FPS I started with snipers and progressed from there as I felt more comfortable.

I figured as much, I guess I'll just keep practicing and swearing at the TV for now - probably best to start off on single player which is a little more forgiving! =P

Yeah, just practise. I was awful, and I mean AWFUL. As bad as anyone could be and after about a month I was top of the scoreboard where I belong :D That's on xbox but I go round to my friends house and beat him on his ps3 now.
Don't give up!

As already stated practice will help greatly, although you have a few other options...

1) There is a controller out which has the same layout as the 360 controller which is better imo for FPS games.

2) MAG supports Move which after some practice is better than a controller.

3) Average game but UT4 supports Mouse/KB on the PS3.

4) Splitfish controller (not sure how good it is as reviews are mixed)
