You are entirely mistaken. Just because you won't be able to play a 2017 AAA game at 4K and 144Hz with all the bells and whistles turned on doesn't mean that you won't be able to play older games at 4K and 144Hz with all the bells and whistles turned on. Further, monitors are upgraded much more infrequently than GPUs and with its set of features, this monitor should have sufficient longevity.
