Command & Conquer: Generals

The first decade was some thing like £7.49 in GAME during the january sales..... Not sure if it is still at that price.
Yeah I picked a copy up for myself. Works well with Windows 7 aswell :)
Superweapons General for example... Altho I love the Aurora Alpha Bombers! Got to love the explosion from them!
Only imbalance there is Superweapons General is too easy to kill. If you let him build Aurora's then you deserve all you get ;)

As a quick update to getting this working on Vista/Windows 7 you have to manually create the 'options.ini' file within your Generals Zero Hour directory within you 'Documents' folder.

Within the notepad file you have created copy the following text:

AntiAliasing = 3
DrawScrollAnchor =
GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0
Gamma = 50
IPAddress = 0.0.0.0
IdealStaticGameLOD = High
LanguageFilter = false
MoveScrollAnchor =
MusicVolume = 55
Resolution = 1280 960
Retaliation = yes
SFX3DVolume = 79
SFXVolume = 71
ScrollFactor = 50
SendDelay = no
StaticGameLOD = High
UseAlternateMouse = no
UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no
VoiceVolume = 70

(you can change the resolution here or in game, up to you :)).

Now one thing you have to make sure you do, is untick in the folder options tab 'hide extensions for known file types'.

If you dont do this then the file you create will be named options.ini.txt/B], lol

Once you have removed the '.txt' from the filename you are good to go :). I have just loaded it up and am over the moon that it worked.

Strangely, Generals worked first time, just needed the latest patch, but Zero Hour needed a bit more work :)

Might have to dig this out. I used to be quite good at Zero Hour although I seemed to be one of the only person who play some of the not so easy match ups.

Alpha Auroras were indeed rather overpowered but unless you were playing no rush it was very easy to just kill a superweapon general before he can build them. Playing against SW general 1on1 was basically a free win.

I'd be up for having a few games if anyone else on here is.

I had a couple of Skirmishes last night to get back into it as the Chinese Nuke General (my favourite because of the Nuke MiGs :D). First game got pretty much taken out apart from my Comms Centre and a couple of bunkers, however the stupid CPU player didnt finish the job as i had a fully promoted Overlord and 2 fully promoted Rocket Soldiers :D.

I proceeded to then destroy his base before he could nuke me again :).

2nd game again as Nuke General got attacked a little early on but a bunker with 3 rocket soldiers in it sorted that out :). Managed to take the nearest Oil Derrick and made a sizeable army to take control of the centre of the map.

Didnt really get attacked much as the CPU players were concentrating on each other leaving me to take out the last of the GLA bases who happened to have a SCUD storm ready to go, however the 1st one wasnt aimed at me and the 2nd launch was halted by my EMP, allowing me to nuke them twice and finish them off with 5 Overlords :D.

All in all i am loving this game all over again, though think it might be a while before i can play it again on Brutal/Online.

We used to have some epic 3 way battles with this back in the day, Each of us became so good at ou own faction that games lasted hours.....sometimes

It has to be one of the most poorly coded games of all times, hell im sure i could throw it at my i7 now and it would still die to a crawl when the unit numbers get too high. I think most problems were caused by the AI pathing, it would get stuck until you destroyed the offending unit trying to constantly drive into a cliff. 6v6 made it almost unplayable at times

But man did we have fun

I played this with a mate on our i7's the other day. Mine OCd to 4GHz hosting. And yup, it still lagged :) Not quite as bad as it used to, but you still had to go for a wonder and find the stuck AI units.

Oh good i thought it was just me, lol. With my Q6600 @ 3.42GHz and 3870X2 the game got a bit jerky with 6 tanks on the screen :p. Like you say, it cleared up after a few secs once the offending unit was destroyed :)

Do you HAVE to create this "options.ini" file or does it already exist in the game folder?
