Command to eject drive?

should be there.

is the drive plugged into the motherboard and power supply?

It's a laptop. Sorry, should have been more precise but i didn't think i would have needed to be...looking at the problem again, think it's more serious than i thought.

I just tried to download and install a DVD driver from Dell and it said "Target could not be found" after i double clicked the driver application.

Not in Device Manager either...argh. :(

is it one of those laptops where you can slide the Optical Drive out and see if any wires are hanging off that shouldn't be? Does seem like it must be disconnected somewhere :(

I'm not entirely sure if i can do that...i may push it around a bit but don't want to damage it too much.

Guess i'll be on the phone to Dell tomorrow....

Just played around a bit and it seems lose...or at least not as sturdy as it once was? And thinking about it, i can't remember when i last saw the drive in My Computer at all. :o
Do you think Dell will take me laptop away or could a bloke fix it for me here and now?

my flatmate's dell hard drive broke, and after a few phone calls, they sent a contractor guy round to replace it.

quite often you can take optical drives out by some combination of switches and things on the bottom - in my experience there's usually a lock which you just slide across then have to push a slidy button or 2 and it'll just slide out. You should unplug your laptop from the mains and take the battery out before doing this though.
