Commodore 64 - Restoration and Upgrade Log

I just wanted to comment that I really enjoyed reading this :)

It’s something I’ve always wanted to get into but never managed to pluck up the courage for fear of me just making things worse!

With so much going on, I haven't updated for a while!

So, with the new VIC-II-Dizer, I carried on working with c0pperdragon and helped diagnose this down to a faulty IC, it seems these may have been a dodgy batch!.. So after getting some new parts and sending me a new one out, it is now spot on!

All colours perfect and now able to be played via HDMI!

I will say that this thing is epic, the PI1541 is a great device, that classic loading speed just cements things, and using the original C64 keyboard and joystick just make this authentic..

I will now get a switchable cartridge so I can get the Epyx Fastloader more easily booted, since not everything is compatible, I don't want too change the main ROM, I prefer to keep that standard...

And finally, Raspberry PIs are coming back in stock, so I will be moving on to the BBC Next! Just some DIY jobs to finish off and as winter comes in, I can see myself really getting on with the others, I have an Atari in a sorry state, but do want to get some form of HDMI out if I can, but options are limited.

Definitely one of the more fun jobs last year, and the best bit is, I've still got the others to sort out.

I'm going to get quotes for doing some sizeably room re-adjustments to our house, which will then leave me with a larger study, which will have small workbench for permanently having all the kit out and hopefully enough room for a floor to ceiling display stand so I can keep them all out and ready to roll!

Great log thank you.

I also have an old C64 or two kicking about in a loft somewhere. It probably works but I'm just not confident that the power supply will still work, or that the caps would be still good after 30 odd years of non use.

I had to recap my old one and i had to swap out the RF modulator now it's stilll running lovely i do like to have it playing some loader in the background with the SID chip singing loudly 40 years on i love it, great thread!

Nice! I still have my C64 in the attic somewhere. Have the tape deck as well as 50 odd Commodore Format magazines with all the demos and free games that came with the magazines. Should take it out again.
