Commuting question

I am assuming this is by train?

I have done that before for a couple of years (South Coast to London).

Sleep in the morning and read in the evening.

Things to look out for:

*know your alternative routes in case there is a problem
*keep a bottle of water with you and something to read (or just buy a DS or the like).
*Keep an eye on the cost.

Best of luck

Depends on the job, if its going to be an exciting job which you will look foward to every day, then yes.

If an office based job then personally id say not a chance. 4 hours tacked onto a job like that every day? Its bad enough before the travelling!

It'll be by car not train.

Yes its an office job - its either this or i have to move and i'm not really enjoying that idea at the moment so cosidering alternatives.

EDIT: Its a good office job, i hope i will enjoy it and look forward to it!

I'd say from personal experience that a 2 hour commute will drive you crazy before too long - I used to have a 1hr45 commute (3.5 hours a day) and it really took a lot out of me. I'd seriously think about moving closer. A 1 hour commute would be my absolute maximum now.

Depends on the journey, 60 miles down a motorway and back each day isn't that bad, especially if the job pays well and there are benefits..... I used to do 100 a day by car..
I'd rather do it by car than by train due to cost and reliability.

That sounds horrendous; 4 hours just travelling per day is bad enough but that will cost a fortune (best sit down and work out how much).

60 miles on any motorway around or coming out of London would be an absolute nightmare. I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy

Short term fine, Long term insane. that makes it a 10hr working day, If you work 8hrs. That's a lot of time..

It makes it a 12 hour day! :/ No way in the world unless its worth a LOT of money.

My mate used to do this by train for a mere £5.75 an hour. I think after travelling expenses he ended up walking away with £25 each day which works out as a little over £2 an hour - mental case IMO.

2hrs each way, No way in hell not even if it was a 100k a year. relocate. Or do it for 3 months for experience then find same job closer to home.

It will cost approx the same as having a share room in a house near where i am going to be working.....

In fuel maybe, but dont forget about additional wear and tear to your car...

I wouldn't.

I commute across London for my current job, have only been doing it for 6 months and I hate it (that's only just over an hour each way too)
Leave home at 7:30 and don't get home until around 12 hours later. It sucks.

A 2 hour commute will be horrendous. The novelty will wear off VERY soon. You'll hate it. You'll have no spare time in the evenings, you're talking about 12 hour days including commute and 8 hour work day and you'll be knackered when you get back and will be too knackered on weekends to want to go anywhere. Not to mention the fuel/servicing costs.

Unless the job is paying you shed loads, or you work superflexi so you can do a 4 day week, then personally, I would steer well clear.
