Commuting question

I would find out about the possibility of working from home 1 or 2 days a week to make the commute more bearable.

One of the guys I work with does a 2 hour drive every single day and has done for years. Not sure how he sticks it tbh.

Don't do it! It'll mess with your sanity within a month or so.

I used to do 35 motorway miles each way to work and that took 45 minutes on a quiet day, but typically just over an hour. I would get into work stressed, get grief off management for being in late, and it just generally made you more tired than necessary.

I moved closer in the end and then got made redundant 6 months later!

I know it sounds hard - but I managed it for a couple of years - up at 5:50 am and then home about 7:15 - sometimes back at up to 11pm. Due to it being on a train, the morning was ok - 2 hours sleep tbh - and those early commuter trains are silent as everyone else is doing the same.

I didn't mind because I loved where I lived - so different to london and that feeling when you get home on a friday and it's all over - irreplacable :-)

Door to door (including walking and so on) my commute takes up to around 90 minutes each way.

4 months in and I must say it's the absolute maximum I'd consider. On Friday I left home at 7am and got in about 8pm, although generally I'm back in by 7. 12 hour days are certainly a bit of a drag.

I've had a lucky few weeks with several days working from home which has made me realise how much of my day I lose to travelling.

I'm going to be here until October than I'll be seriously evaluating my options.
