Would really appreciate any advice on this... last night my pc was working perfectly well. i logged off as normal with no problems. However when i went to turn it on today nothing happens!
I've taken the panel off and had a look, (bear in mind i'm a complete novice) all i can see is a small glowing green light on what i assume is the motherboard? there are no fans working, no sound coming from anywhere, just the green light.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you give us any info on the machine in question (esp motherboard)

Having a green light on the mobo glowing is a good sign maybe the PSU has not died, tho it's not guaranteed as I recently found out!

You may get results by just clearing the CMOS, and your very lucky if you do hence I wanted to know what motherboard.

sorry to sound ignorant, but how can i tell what make the motherboard is? Can you point me in the right direction? cant see anything on it apart from Intel, and cant boot it to get any info.
Its an E machine that's about all i know.. meanwhile i'll get the vac out and give it a clean.

Has it got any names or details towards the lower part of the board. Between the pci slots? e.g.
mobog7qf.jpg

Or any labels with info on the board.
Green led light suggests to me it's an Asus board.

Can you check that all plugs currently connected inside the computer to the cd-drive, hard drive are fully connected.

oops.. too late, although it seems fine, i'm still alive! tho slowly losing the will to live.

Right, ive taken some pics, but seeing as i'm on my dilapidated laptop i cant upload them as the software is on my other comp.

From what i can see it says:
N232
E210882

I'll endeavour to get the pics uploaded asap.

With regards to connections etc. I stupidly disconnected the leads from the power switch to the motherboard without checking in which order they were. So i'll include pics of those too and perhaps someone can tell me how to reconnect without doing any more damage.

The rest of the connections are nice and firm, nothing is loose.

I'm not blonde honest ;)

so that is a intel motherboard with i am guessing a celeron or p4 processor, with standard ddr not ddr2 ram.

first question, did you get any beeps at all when you started it up and you got the green lights?

ok lets hope these upload ok...

no i didnt get any lights or beeps at all.. just the glowing green one on the motherboard

I'm gonna sleep on this and come back nice and fresh in the morning when i'll have hopefully lost the urge to throw it out of the window..

thanks for all your help so far :D

Reseating (take out, blow on, look sagely at, shove back in) RAM and video is always worth a try (after clearing CMOS as others have said, but since I don't know this board, I'll leave the how's and why's of that to someone else). However, usually things get fidgety in their sockets fairly early in life (1st year or two), and this machine sounds like a well bedded in workhorse.

ok new day new enthusiasm... i'll give that a try.
Apart from using the vac, how else can i give it a clean? any proprietary cleaners recommended?

bump.. its all sparkly (don't worry i didn't use Mr. Muscle, was tempted to use vodka, but think I'll save that for later) all connections are good and sound, however i do need to know in which order to reconnect the power leads (see Pic).
someone?

cheers

i had the same problem on my pc before.

it turned out to be some thing very simple : when you push the power button on the case behind it theres the real switch to power it up (with my one anyway) what happened with mine was the little switch that the power button pushes had actually broke and landed in side my case.

so when i was hitting the power button on the front nothing would happen because the switch it pushes was lying at the bottom of my case lol

the lights are on on the motherboard, the power lead appears to be working (i hear a sound of electric as it is put in) and the power button still makes a depression and 'click' when it is pressed any more ideas??
