Comp keeps crashing

I don't know if this is right place for this forum but i need help. I have just bought all my computer parts on here on friday, then i when i got them i went to work installing them. when i have finished it was booting up fine then when i went to try and play a game it crashed. after my computer doing this 5 times windows offered me a solution, i might be the RAM. so i downloaded the program they gave to test my RAM and when it started the test the RAM was failing.

So i went around some forums looking for a solution, one told me to try each RAM stick on its own, which i did and they worked OK on there own. so i have been running my new computer on 1GB instead of 2.

Yesterday i went out and bought STALKER when i try and play this game after about 1hour it crashes again, and again windows is telling me it is the RAM.

Has anyone any idea how i can fix this???

PC SPEC;
CPU: e6600 duo
MoBo: Asus P5N-E SLI
Graphic: BFG 8800 GTS OC 320MB
RAM: Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400 C4
PSU: Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 SLI
 
RMA the ram if you're still getting errors with only 1 stick. If you can test in another PC that would be most handy. I'd also pay a visit into the BIOS to make sure the RAM settings are set correctly - i.e. speed and CAS settings.

Your temps ok?
 
I've already made sure the RAM timings are what they should be, what is CAS (im pretty new to bios :P)

As far as i can gather yes, but im going to invest in another 2 fans to make sure.
 
When i say CAS settings i mean the DRAM settings, CAS, Trp, Tras etc etc so yeh sounds like you have that sorted.

Can you check in the BIOS for what temps are being reported?
 
shame i dont have another PC to test the RAM in, could be the mobo if the RAM wont work it there are 2 sticks in?
 
sometimes yes, but generally not. have you put them in the correct ram slots to use dual channel ram? (see mobo manual for correct slots)

didn't you say you had errors with 1 stick in too? (re: running 1gb and stalker is crashing).

i'd run memtest86+ http://www.memtest.org/ on easy stick individually, and then as dual channel.
 
Ok i've just finishing doing the tests,

stick 1 in the correct slot: fine
stick 2 in the correct slot: fine
stick 1 + 2 in correct slots: lots of errors

Test 1: fine
Test 2: fine
Test 3: fine
Test 4: lots of errors about 268 in total
Test 5: lots of errors now up 2 4096
Test 6: lots of errors now up 2 5120
Test 7: errors but number didnt go up
Test 8: i think there was 1 error

When it restarted to test, if found errors on test1,2 + 3
 
What about your DDR Voltage? You set that to what s specified for your RAM? It will be on auto by default?

The option for the DDR voltage is in Advanced > JumperFree Configuration > Voltage Control.

Give ti a whirl, who knows ?
 
OK i have checked on the Corsair website, it said my RAM timings are 4-4-4-12, which i what i have set them to in bios. also the voltage is 2.1v so i set it to the nearest one which is 2.085v.

now i'm gonna see how long stalker plays for before it blue screens my computer
 
I had the exact same problem when I built my new rig, after increasing the voltage to the ram problem solved. Only took me two weeks to work that out :rolleyes: .
 
ok it still seems to crash in games with both RAM in there correct slots

I would up the DDR volt to just over 2.1v opposed to just below, try that!

Also what colour slots you got the RAM in? Yellow or Black ones?

Exactly what I was going to say if he said he had them in the yellow. I had mine in the yellow at first and had issues... they are buggy I think!
 
You are correct in thinking i have them in the yellow slots, as soon as i finish work in gonna change them over to the black slots. Then fingers crossed it will play STALKER with no blue screenies.

And I would deffo put your DDR Voltage to just above 2.1v (2.178v on the P5N-E) instead of just below, that could be causing the problem!

Bear in mind though, that STALKER does have it own issues, you could be assuming its your PC and its actually the game.

I have been playing STALKER non stop for weeks now and never had a problem, but I am on XP... if you are on Vista, combined with a 8800, who knows what it will do!

Im just running XP atm the moment with all the correct drivers, havnt had much of a problem playing with one, so im guessing that they are ok and its just gonna be a case of putting the RAM in the other slots and to change the voltage to 2.178v

Well you shouldn't have probs with STALKER in its self then, so do the above and hopefully you will be sorted!
