Hey guys,

My parents computer is in a little bit of a pickle. They asked what was up when their computer hardly got up to windows log in screen before just completely shutting off.

I thought maybe the CPU was getting very hot and the CPU cooler needed reseating, didn't work.

After a while, it's now not even posting. The fans aren't even spinning up when turned on. Could anyone help me please?

Thanks
Rig

What's there full spec.

Is it possible to test any components in another pc like the memory and and swop the PSU over.

Granted it's a very old, but I'd like know what is up. I did wonder about the PSU. Yeah I have access actually, I swap them around and see what is up.

I'd just like to know what the typical situation is when this kind of thing happens. :)

Thanks

If it's getting any kind of power when you try and switch it on then I would say it's likely not to be the PSU. If it's not even posting then it's not the HDD.

I would say RAM is the most likely culprit, followed by Mobo. Unlikely to be the CPU or GFX card but you never know.
