Comp upgrade

no i dont have two cards... i have one and will be adding what ever other gts i get to my old one

what is the point of sli?

from what i know sli takes 2 cards and gives the computer the impression you just have one "super" card

I.E. if i have a card with a clock speed of 500 and i add another card with 500 and sli both cards together it will give me a clock speed of 1000?

No

That wouldnt work. you need two of the same cards,

And it doesnt just turn it into one. They are two seperate cards still, sli is a waste of time really the scaling is rubbish so you only get a 20% increase in performance. The only half decent sli chipset is the nforce 7 which is fairly expensive compared to the intel p35/p45.

ohhh im in over my head here lol

so id have to have another 8800gts 320 to work with my old 8800gts 320? and i wouldent get double performance?

It would have to be the same card yes. You would get about a 20% boost in performance over your single gts.

If i was you i would sell it and get an ati 4850/4870

Also, what resolution do you play games at? Because that comes into the mix too.

and your 2.4 q6600 will give you 9.6ghz of processing power all the time....;)

sli and Xfire tend not scale well at all 2 graphics card aren't always twice as fast. as games and aplications have to be designed to work with sli / xfire

right ok, lets start from the top lol....

here is what il be getting...

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 2.40GHz Guaranteed to run at 3.00GHZ (1333FSB) - Retail
- £122.19

GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 800MHz (to add to my other 2gig) - £30.54

which leaves me with about £200

what is the best Mobo And Graphics card i can get with that?

seeing as sli seems to be crap :P
