Yep, Sigma has done it! It's called DP1 and it has probably opened up a new market.

The DP1 has a sensor around the size of those found in most DLSRs - although it is greatly different in terms of design - and aims to offer equivalent image-quality and specification in a compact format.

With dSLR sensor like that, it will easily kill off the rest of compact cameras with very tiny sensor which is about 7-12 times smaller!

14.06 million effective pixels (4.69 million x 3)

Does it have an R, a G and a B sensor or something?

Image size is only 4,646,400px though, so 4.7MP images.

Not really a new market
Sony released the R1 in 2005 which was a fixed lens 'bridge' camera with an APS-C sensor - Bigger than the sensor in that Sigma camera.
