Compact DSLR

Whats different between a compact and DSLR camera? I want a camera under £200, I see a lot of DSLR around here and my dad has a Pentax Option S12 which I thought was really good, it's compact.

..So anyway, can someone just reccomend me a camera for a starter. Just gonna take all sorts of pictures. Under 200.. maybe under 150. Thanks.

Are you fussed about the size of it? If not and you can hunt one down Fuji S9600 is excellent.

I'm not fussed about the size of the camera, but I would like the screen on the back to be quite big.

fuji has excellent reviews, is available for sub £200 easily. has decent lens, raw capability, 9 mpixels....google it and it may be something you can try somewhere. I have an S5600 and it's a lovely bit of kit, 400d/40d/1000d next methinks though
