OK I have a question I am sure some of you may be able to answer I think I have been sold a rebadged ( ie a cheapy made to look expensive ) CF card, I have a 1gb sandisk ultra2 which has a read write time of like 10meg/sec the other card I have is a 4gb sandisk Extreme4 with a write time of 40meg/sec now when taking pics it takes longer for the camera to write to the 4gb card than the 1gb card but the 4gb card is supposed to be the faster of the two....I am talking like 5-10 seconds slower on the 4gb, now is this due to the size of the card or because its a dodgey card????

Cheers

Oh if it helps I was taking between 10-20 continous shots of the same object for this test same light same settings

size of the card shouldn't affect it's write rate.
There are loads of counterfeit Sandisk card (some very professional looking copies).

Post some pictures of the card up. Where did you get it from? If eBay then it's almost certainly a fake.

This is a pretty good thread to read about fake CF cards....

Performance
I compared the performance of the genuine and fake cards by putting them into my Canon EOS 350D camera, with the following configuration:
manual mode
exposure set to 1/4000 seconds
manual focus
raw mode only
the lens cap on
burst mode
I then took 6 photos in burst mode, and timed how long it took the camera to flush the buffer to the compact flash card after the last photo.

The genuine card took approximately 6 seconds, while the fake card took almost twice as long, approximately 10-11 seconds.

Try that ^ and see how long it takes to write the buffered shots to the CF card. That is the best way to check the card out.

Unfortunately I got stung by a fake card, if it is fake, demand a refund.

Most of the suppliers aren't even aware that they are fakes as there is so many around.

Yup read some of the links its a fake and im sure the second one I am getting is a fake too grrrrrr
will get a pic up in a mo

christ, the fonts are completely wrong on half that.

i mean, just comparing it to the picture on the box and its totally different, how could anyone think that's genuine? :/

I've decided never to buy anything of an auction site or similar jungly place in the used and new section due to dodgy sellers. If you are getting a memory card for 1/3 of it's actual value on cheapish online sellers then it's usually too good to be true.

I paid about £80 for a 8gb Extreme III compact flash card off a legitimate site and I know that it's going to be giving me the performance that the cost deserves rather than paying a third of that and getting a 3rd rate product.

Ok ebay seller has responded to my email saying he is so sorry blah blah blah said if I send his card ( I haven't received the second card yet but its from the same guy but different ebay shop ) he will refund me he said his supplier told him cards were legit.....OK so if the second card is a fake as well how does he explaine that ???
