Hi Chaps

For some of you who have read my previous thread on having a nightmare with taking shots with the F31FD, I finally took it back to the shop and got some vouchers. I appreciate that it got some great reviews, but I was having no joy getting nice crisp shots from it and when I spoke to Fuji they simply replied that it was working within "acceptable tolerance levels." Even though the shots from my old 2MP camera were a lot crisper.

I did get some decent shots when I adjusted the camera manually, but I want a camera that is ace when fully automated (as the missues uses it too!)

Anyway, so what I am after is a camera that is a basic point and click, but takes decent shots. No faffing with ISO of F settings. Just point, shoot, done. :)

Have had a quick look and these ones look decent.....
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W35
Casio Exilim EX-Z1050
Panasonic DMC LZ6

Also these 2.....
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W55
Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80

Any thoughts on these would be appreciated.

Cheers

i would say the casio.
I have the z7120 and love it. They even replaced the whole optical unit free for me, apart from afterwards it seems to occasionally have a problem of focusing, but that just could be me when drunk.

My friend has just bought Sony DSC W80 and it's quite a good camera. Nice and fast start up time and taking pics, although have you looked at Fuji F40fd (i.e. if you are willing to try out another Fuji camera).

Thanks guys

As I have vouchers I have to get them from the same place and they don't have some of those cameras in your recommended.

I've got some advice from other forums as well and from the list they recommended the Panasonic DMC LZ6.

Any further advice would be welcome

Cheers

Get it and see what you think. It might be worse than the F31. check out dpreview and pbase for sample pics,

I've read a couple of reviews and the Sony W55 seemed to get a better response than the Ixus 70.

There's a review of both up on steves-digicams. The Canon is listed as the Powershot SD1000 (US name) and the Sony is reviewed as the W35 (W35 and W55 are the same, aside that the W55 has a larger screen and brushed metal finish).

Aye I have been using steves-digicams and cameras.co.uk for my reviews.

You know where you have seen about the W55 being better than the Ixus 70?

I have read that the Ixus is generally better, but doesn't come with image stabilisation, but not sure how big an issue this is.

Hi chaps, thanks for all your advice and info.

Went for the Canon Ixus 70 in the end. Took some nice photos with it last night, and nice and small to go in my pocket too.

Cheers

Have you found the pictures with the Ixus 70 any better ?

Yeah, taken about 300 shots so far and they come out ace. Nice and clear and sharp.

The Ixsus 70 seems to pick better ISO and F values than the F31 on the auto mode (in my opinion).

Very pleased with the camera :)
