Slowly planning out things I need to take to uni and I realized I don't think I'm gonna be able to drag my speakers and amp all the way to Bristol from here, so I'm gonna need to get something more compact...

Does any such thing exist? Currently got Monitor Audio BR2s and a Rotel RA-01 and love the sound, I just can't deal with the size.

Any ideas, anyone?

Are you sure you can't deal with the size? I manage to lug my bookshelf speakers and an amp to uni, along with a desktop PC.

Try looking at those mission bookshelfs, they're not teeney but fait bit smaller than reg bookshelf speakers.

Model/link on the way.

You'll still need an amp though.

You going to UWE or UB? If UWE, which halls? The st matts ones are pretty small, but the Frenchay halls are a bit bigger if you can get one of the handicapped rooms :o

Unless I'm driven back and forth every single holiday (not gonna happen) I will not be able to take anything of that size! I'd like a simple small setup I can leave there. I'll be having a laptop rather than my desktop too. I won't be taking my car, if I could I wouldn't be having this thread!
I am perfectly happy to buy the amp when I am there so that I don't have to get a compact one but I don't think I'll have the space for big old bookshelves, the rooms are not that large in all the accomedation I've been to see.

It's UB not UWE, not really sure which halls I'm even going for yet!

Fair enough. Perhaps look into some stereo Class T amplifiers. They're usually small, efficient and sound good.:)

T-Amps confuse me. There are so many different cheap looking units on ebay; the only one I've ever heard of is the Sonic Impact T-Amp but that's been out of production for quite a while....

An alternative... Audioengine A2, active speakers instead of a proper seperates system? Verry small though.. Hrrm

There are lots of active monitor speakers for pro/semi-pro applications available. Many are Bi-amplified and should provide good quality and some are quite small. How much are you looking to spend?

Probably around £250 max in total, happy to go second hand though. Source will be probably a laptop most of the time but I can take my USB dac in order to avoid horrible output to active speakers if needs be.

By a decent second hand amp and bookshelf speakers when you get there, stick the amp ontop of a cupboard or under your bed.
